Tortured and Torturers are All the Same

Ann Coulter wants to do nothing about the Christian genocide[1] taking place in the Middle East, so her apathy toward non-Christians being persecuted is not surprising. One would expect, though, that she could distinguish between the tortured and the torturers! Coulter can’t!

Tortured

In yesterday’s column,[2] a confused Coulter again conflated victim with victimizer, demonstrating yet again that in her mind refugees fleeing persecution are synonymous with their persecutors and no different from all those bad immigrants who are “hell bent” on destroying America.[3]

By Coulter’s own account, Kamal, a Syrian refugee living in Texas, fled a government which imprisoned and tortured him for protesting against the government. Kamal fears for the lives of his relatives in Syria who do not abide by sharia law. Kamal understandably wants his family and other freedom-loving refugees from Syria to be able to join him in the land of the free.

From Coulter’s perspective, Kamal is no different from his persecutors. Coulter asks, “Why would any country not jump at the chance to admit masses of people who administer electric shocks and remove organs as punishment for protesting the government? We must be crazy!”

Kamal is the victim, not the perpetrator!

Yes, Coulter equates a protestor opposed to government tyranny and persecution with the government being opposed and performing the persecution!

Coulter also claims that Kamal hates Syrians (because he fled Syria) but wants to bring Syrians to the U.S. Wrong! He hates the Syrian government, not the Syrian people. Coulter used to be more sanguine. As she noted in 1996, “It wasn’t that we hated the Russians; we hated the system, we considered them victims of the system.”[4]

Now, Coulter has changed her tune. Now, she is outraged at those who want to help persecuted Syrians. Sarcasm directed at the Times, Coulter wrote, “they’re shocked when readers don’t respond to descriptions of these medieval cultures by saying, What this country needs is more electric shock torture and organ harvesting of prisoners. How about we bring in some more Syrians?

Kamal was the victim of “electric shock torture and organ harvesting,” not the culprit!

Coulter next relates a gruesome story of Farkhunda Malikzada, was savagely “beaten to death” by “a homicidal mob in Afghanista,” “after being falsely accused of burning a Koran.” One local merchant, Mohammad Yaqoub, was “eager to join.”

Coulter, apathetic to all the victims of these Islamists, jokes: “Let’s get Yaqoub here. He can work at Lens Crafters!”

Coulter decries “the government’s plan to continue dumping these sick, sadistic cultures on us.” Again, Coulter confuses peoples and cultures. They are not the same. Individual refugees fleeing persecution (especially those actively opposed to the government and sharia) are fleeing the culture.

Ask Ayaan Hirsi Ali. She is a Somali-born, Dutch-American activist who has dedicated her life to end the culture of female genital mutilation and reform Islam.

For over 15 years, Coulter has projected her own unique worldview, one which posits good and evil with no shades of gray. Her paradigm offers only stereotypes. In 2002, Coulter claimed that all liberals are to blame for all the evils extant in the world. In 2003, Coulter contended that all liberals are traitors and opposed to civilization. In 2006, Coulter asserted the godlessness of all liberals. Now, she claims that all immigrants are bad.

Well, almost all. (She likes the white European ones.)[5]

In the end, Coulter seeks to restore a lost WASP culture in America and she seeks the permanent elimination of Third World immigration. She laments that the Obama administration has admitted only “approximately 12 immigrants from the British Isles.”

(Ann, non-white Middle Easterners also reside in the British Isles. Oh, that’s right, that’s why you want to use Tinder to process their applications.)[6]

Ignorant Ideologue

Only a willfully ignorant ideologue could concoct such an utterly meaningless factoid.

What did Ann Coulter say this time? Just a few weeks ago, Coulter claimed:

Ignorant Ideologue

“From 1924 to 1965, the United States of America virtually stopped all immigration – the most prosperous period in American history. That’s when we developed into a country with this massive, wealthy middle class.”[1]

Here, Coulter merges multiple, disparate periods of American history together – the prosperity of the Roaring Twenties, the decade-long and aptly-named Great Depression, World War II, and the post-war, pre-Great Society years – as if they formed a stable and cohesive baseline for her economic analysis of the implications of immigration in America.

Coulter treats immigration as if it were the only variable in the equation. How did an immigration moratorium lead to both depression and expansion, both world war and post-war peace?

How can all those periods be merged into “the most prosperous period in American history?” Tell that to those who experienced rationing during World War II or the worldwide impact of the Great Depression. Where was this “massive, wealthy middle class” in the 1930s?

Did the Immigration Act of 1965 end American prosperity? Or did Lyndon Johnson’s massive war on poverty initiate that economic decline? How did the Vietnam War, anti-war protests, race riots, and the countercultural revolution impact America’s economy? For Coulter, immigration is the only variable that matters.

Coulter made a similar claim in September:

“For example, in the twenties, 1924, basically a total moratorium for the next 40 years. It was the most prosperous period of American history.”[2]

Coulter is so intent upon crushing immigration that Coulter makes things us. Again, where is the economic continuity from the Roaring Twenties and Great Depression through World War II and the Cold War? Foolish nonsense!

Still, she repeats her fabricated factoid ad infinitum. Speaking to a Canadian audience, Coulter again asserted:

“We cut off immigration and had the most prosperous period of American history, from 1924 until Teddy Kennedy’s immigration act of 1965. Immigration was basically shut down and this country’s economy, welfare – everything – went through the roof.”[3]

Rather than recognize her foolishness and do the wise thing – stop talking! – Coulter repeats her blather on show after show after show. The fool proves her own folly.[4] As Mark Twain famously observed, “It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.”

Only a willfully ignorant ideologue could concoct such an utterly meaningless factoid.

Update: Michael Novak recently highlighted what Ann Coulter dismisses: the unparalleled prosperity brought about by the leadership of Ronald Reagan. Novak wrote:

“Following the economic ‘malaise’ bemoaned by President Carter, President Reagan changed the country’s direction dramatically. He ended the oil shortage, brought interest rates down by two-thirds, spurred the creation of 16 million new jobs, and put a higher proportion of American adults to work than ever before in history. Under Reagan, the American economy added to its wealth the equivalent of the whole economy of West Germany. This American boon lasted another 20 years after Reagan, through Democratic and Republican administrations. Reagan pointed out that government bureaucrats do not put more citizens to work; millions of new business startups do. He gave priority to sparking business startups.”

Coulter Wants to Destroy GOP

Ann Coulter wants to destroy the GOP (and, ultimately, America, in the process).[1]

Donald Trump is Coulter’s current Savior[2] – and America’s, too. So says Ann.

Destroy GOP

For many election cycles, Coulter has promoted RINO candidates and vilified conservative ones. For several years, she has insisted that we always vote R regardless of any questionable conservative credentials of the candidate.

Coulter has defamed the Tea Party,[3] pro-lifers,[4] and Christians[5] – all to promote her RINO of the day.

Coulter has even joyfully contemplated the demise of the Republican Party – all out of pique over its failure to be transformed into her image. (Ironically, Coulter has promoted many candidates who, like her, are unprincipled.)

Now, Coulter insists that we preempt the nominating process in order to coronate her candidate. Her most recent column title says it all: “It’s Time for the Other 13 Candidates to Drop Out.”[6] (My column, “Coulter Hates All GOP Candidates But Trump,”[7] was posted the day before hers.)

Coulter has always regarded herself as a king-maker[8] and has been ever-willing to circumvent the electoral process.[9]

Destroying GOP

Let’s be clear here: Coulter wants to destroy the GOP over immigration using Trump as her weapon.

With whom would she replace the GOP? The Tea Party she has attacked for several election cycles? The genuine conservatives she has trashed in pursuit of her own agenda? Her dwindling fan base?

A gloating Coulter opined, “it’s apparently considered a devastating attack for Republicans to go on Fox News and say, ‘He’s not a real Republican.’ Well, OK, half the country is say, ‘Oh, he’s not? Fantastic!’ … I think this is an incredibly important election year. This could be the end of the Republican Party. It could go the way of the Whigs.”[10]

And again, “With Donald Trump, I think we may be seeing the breakup, ironically, of the Republican Party, like something we haven’t seen since the Republicans broke away from the Whigs.”[11]

As Jamie Weinstein noted, “If [Trump] won it would be the death of the conservative movement.”[12]

Coulter seems to cherish the thought. Why? During Tuesday’s debate, Coulter tweeted: “Audience so stacked with RNC toadies!!!!! I’m surrounded by America’s enemies!”[13]

Coulter has already vilified every Republican candidate (save Trump), saying she hates them.[14] Coulter claims that all of the GOP candidates (save Trump) are awful, embarrassing, and unpatriotic.[15]

What to do with a party you hate, with candidates you regard as America’s enemies? Coulter’s answer: Destroy them!

Time after time, Coulter has stated her goal of destruction, saying, “All we’ll have to do is organize the death panels for the people who destroyed America, and map out whose graves will be desecrated.”[16]

Again, “No, I’m just not getting to the point that I think the only the only thing left for us to do is death squads.”[17]

Again, “Now it’s time to call out the death squads.”[18]

Again, “OK, now it’s time to call out the death squads.”[19]

Coulter’s warning before the 2014 election: “We’ll vote one more time for Republicans. You screw us on immigration, we are done. At that point, there’s no point to anything except organizing the death squads.”[20]

What If?

What if Coulter had backed staunchly conservative candidates[21] instead of her “magnificent” RINOs? (All Republicans, like pundits, are not equal.)

What if Coulter had insisted on principles over pragmatism? (Unscrupulous people don’t have principles.)

What if Coulter has been true to her espoused core beliefs instead of trading them in for a fantasy? (The only thing Coulter seems to believe in is herself.)

What if, instead of vilifying true conservatives, she had kept her mouth shut? (That would truly be a miracle.)

Perhaps we would then have a Republican Congress and White House which abides by the Constitution and pursues a conservative vision for America.

Update:

Writing immediately after Super Tuesday, Liam Donovan contends (emphasis added):

“But whatever divisiveness a contested convention might bring, whatever fissures within the party it might deepen, there would be nothing more destructive to the GOP than a Trump nomination. If anything, taking this to the convention and fighting until the bitter end is a necessary battle for the soul of the party of Lincoln and the movement it has come to be associated with. There can be no catharsis unless the resistance is fierce.”

At the moment, the only political party with a conservative orientation is the GOP. Coulter has nothing with which to replace it.

Coulter Hates All GOP Candidates But Trump

In yet another series of bizarre radio interviews, Ann Coulter expressed her utter contempt for the entire GOP presidential field (with the singular exception of Donald Trump).

HatesGOP

During her rapid-fire rant on the Eric Metaxas Show,[1] Coulter boasted that upon Trump’s nomination she began “dedicating the next 18 months of my life to making sure he becomes the next president.”

Why interview a partisan shill for one candidate about all of the other candidates? What’s the point? How can Coulter’s views be considered valid when she has dedicated herself to ensuring that Trump wins? Especially given her exceedingly long history of lying for those she supports and defaming those she opposes?

Continuing her modus operandi from the 2000,[2] 2004, 2008[3] and 2012[4][5] election cycles, Coulter championed her man and defamed his opponents. Coulter did so this election cycle, supporting Mitt Romney,[6] until Trump appeared on the scene.[7]

On Eric Metaxas Show (11/11/15)

On her friend, Eric Metaxas’ show, Coulter made a demonstrably false claim: “[Trump’s] always been a Republican his whole life.”[8] She went on to say: “I’m proud of my country; I hate these candidates. I think they are awful. They are embarrassing. They are led by the RNC. They do not care about Americans.”

That’s right: All of the GOP candidates (save Trump) are awful, embarrassing, and unpatriotic.

Coulter again, and frequently, lambasted Carly Fiorina[9] (as she has in the past),[10] complaining, “Carly got an applause line. I hate applause lines.” (Now, that’s funny! Doesn’t Coulter live for applause lines?) Coulter continued with her looksist attacks, charging, “She’s a sourpuss. She is. She never smiles.” On another program, Coulter reiterated her complaint: “She’s a sourpuss. … her little Nurse Ratched face.”[11]

As for Ted Cruz, “He’s not a natural born citizen.”[12] Another lie![13] Surprisingly, her friend did not correct her.

Oh, and Coulter wants Jeb Bush to continue his campaign so that he can “attack Ricky Ricardo.”[14] (But, in the summer, Coulter was positive that, barring a Trump victory, either Bush or Rubio would get the nomination.)[15]

Coulter is so confusing because she, herself, is confused.[16]

On Eric Metaxas Show (10/22/15)

On a previous Eric Metaxas Show,[17] Coulter asserted, “I think any Republican – other than Trump – would be a disaster [for America].”

Again, according to Coulter, all of the GOP candidates (save Trump) “would be a disaster [for America].”

Why would they all be a disaster? Because, according to Coulter, they are wrong on immigration. Coulter said:

“The shortcut [to determining whether someone is smart] is ‘Where do you stand on immigration?’ It’s the litmus test of our day. It tells you how bright someone is. It tells you whether they care about the country. It separates the mice from the men.”

Metaxas responded with “Wow!”

Shockingly, Coulter recently admitted, “I’m not even sure I trust Trump to do the right thing on immigration.”[18]

If that is true, then why demonize every other Republican? Because, Trump is Coulter’s kind of elite.[19]

Hates All Republican Candidates (Except Trump)

Coulter condemns every GOP candidate who is not The Donald. “All these eunuchs running in the presidential race against Donald Trump.”[20] Coulter ridicules them all. Over the Thanksgiving holiday, Coulter denounced “the various Bushes – George, Jeb, Shemp, Zeppo – are trying to turn America into Mexico.”[21]

Remember: Coulter was George W. Bush’s biggest supporter for almost eight years; now he is the butt of her jokes. Was she right then, or is she right now?

Coulter openly professes to be a very-biased Trump advocate: “I’m a super-fan [of Trump].”[22]

If that is true (and Coulter boasts that it is), then why do people interview her about Trump and the other candidates? They know she is a partisan hack and a shill for Trump. They know her history of propagandistic commentary (as noted above), that she will say and do anything to give victory to her candidate. So why have her on at all?

Do ratings really matter more than having an honest discussion with people who will eschew ad hominem attacks and cite real facts instead of fabrications?

If Coulter is the best they can do, then we are doomed.

Coulter Still Doesn’t Get Terrorist Threat!

In her celebratory “Happy Birthday to Me!” column[1] last Wednesday, Ann Coulter finally – finally! – acknowledged and highlighted terrorism in America. But then, she quickly reversed course, urging us to “Forget the terrorism”[2] and, instead, focus on immigration.

Still

After vigorously denying,[3] for almost a year,[4] the very existence of Islamic jihad in America,[5] Coulter suddenly spotlighted Islamic terrorism in one column.

Brief Recognition of Domestic Terrorism

An elated Coulter penned her birthday column, praising Donald Trump for her “best birthday gift this week” – his plan to stop all Muslim immigration into the U.S.

Coulter repeatedly used terms and phrases like “Muslim terrorist attacks on U.S. soil,” “radical Islamic terrorism,” and “as if the nation had come under terrorist attack,” suggesting that she now understands the threat posed by Islamists to Americans. Coulter admitted there have been “more than a dozen Muslim terrorist attacks on our soil in the last 15 years.”

Coulter even acknowledged, “there are more than a thousand active investigations of ISIS in all 50 states.” But Coulter’s only solution to terrorism is to stop immigration!

Coulter offered no ideas for what to do with terrorists who are already here. Further, she opposes stopping terrorists overseas! Coulter chided Rubio for his military solution to destroy the source of terrorism in the Middle East.[6]

Ignore Domestic Terrorism?

The very next day, Coulter reverted to norm, dismissing the process in which ISIS victories overseas translate domestic radicalization and telling Americans to “Forget the terrorism.”[7] So, Coulter’s seeming change of heart on terrorism was ephemeral, illusory, merely a trick to capitalize on the news of the day.

Why did her column last week focus so much on terrorism? She was not prompted to do so because of the recent terrorist attacks in San Bernardino or in Paris. Rather, Trump’s call to ban Muslim immigrants and refugees acted as a jump start to Coulter’s own anti-immigration crusade.

Coulter decries the immigration of over a million Muslims since 9/11, “as they continue to launch these terrorist attacks here in America.”[8] Coulter also attacks the folly (in her mind) of fighting ISIS overseas. Why? Because the San Bernardino terrorists (she calls them “shooters”)[9] had planned terrorist plots prior to the formation of ISIS. (Except, ISIS is an outgrowth of Al-Qaeda and all the Islamist terrorist groups have a shared goal of a global caliphate.)

Just as she has done all this year, adopting a very Obamaesque line of reasoning, Coulter dismisses the Islamist threat in America in order to focus on her anti-immigration agenda and to promote her book and her Chosen One: Donald Trump.[10]

For Coulter, terrorism is merely a distraction from the real threat to America – climate change. No, that’s Obama’s fear.[11] Make that, immigration.

What To Do About Domestic Terrorism?

Throughout this year, Coulter has merged domestic terrorism into the immigration crisis, when they are, in fact, overlapping concerns. Having subordinated domestic terrorism to immigration, she ignores it.

Coulter is zealous over immigration while dismissing terrorism.[12] Indeed, she refers to the San Bernardino terrorists as shooters.[13] Coulter was horrified at all of the attention paid to the Paris terrorist attack[14] (at the expense of immigration) and, in the face of the San Bernardino terrorist attack, Coulter again opposed immigrants, not terrorists.[15]

Coulter claims that immigration is the answer to everything!

Coulter’s proposal – a moratorium on immigration – would do nothing to stop those Islamists who are already here in America. Coulter neglects those terrorists, Islamists, and others who could be radicalized who already have their green cards or are American citizens. Coulter has no plan for them. Nor does she have any proposals to stop the radicalization of future terrorists.

And Coulter will attack you if you raise the issue!

Instead, Coulter commands us to “Forget the terrorism.”[16]

Coulter Still Lying After All These Years

In her propagandistic column last week,[1] Coulter offered up 11 examples of “non-white immigrant” “mass murder” from 1993-2015. Coulter’s list is nonsensical and meaningless, but meaningless with a mission – to promote her own agenda.[2]

Coulter cleverly culled 11 examples from over the space of 23 years to prove that non-white immigrants are more dangerous that white citizens.

StillLying

Her list is fraudulent, emphasizing the race/origin of the culprits while ignoring the reason or motivation for the violence.[3] Indeed, she does what so many on the Left do: conflate crime, insane shooting sprees, and terrorism – as if they were the same.[4]

Combining a botched robbery, shooting sprees by the mentally ill, and coordinated attacks by Islamic terrorists negates any possibility of developing a clear profile or strategy to combat or deter the violence.

Coulter’s List of Non-White Immigrant Villains

Notice that Coulter’s 11 examples of non-white immigrant mass shootings include seven incidents by the mentally ill, one botched robbery (which, by definition, is not a mass shooting), one incident of workplace violence (and probably mental illness as well), and one coldly calculated terrorist attack.

Name Status Killed Injured Comments
Chris Harper-Mercer “mixed-race, half-black immigrant” 9 7-9 Mental illness
Elliot Rodger “mixed-race immigrant” 6 14 Mental illness
Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev “Chechen immigrants” 3 264 Islamic terrorists
Kesler Dufrene “Haitian immigrant” 3 0 Botched robbery
Eduardo Sencion “Mexican immigrant” 3 0 Mental illness
Nidal Malik Hasan “second-generation immigrant” 13 30 Islamic terrorist
Jiverly Wong “first-generation Vietnamese immigrant” (actually a naturalized American citizen) 13 4 Mental illness
Seung-Hui Cho “Korean immigrant” 32 17 Mental illness
Colin Ferguson “Jamaican immigrant” 6 19 Mental illness
Sulejman Talovic “Bosnian immigrant” 5 4 Mental illness
Salvador Tapia “Mexican immigrant” 6 0 Workplace violence

Coulter’s contrived list of “immigrants” committing crimes is just that – contrived. Coulter knows the truth. Just two months ago, Coulter wrote (emphasis added): But I notice that every mass murder is committed by someone who is mentally ill. When the common denominator is a characteristic found in about 0.1 percent of the population – I think we’ve found the crucial ingredient!”[5]

Nevertheless, Coulter now distinguishes between non-white immigrant shootings and white non-immigrant shootings, all to promote her anti-immigrant book and agenda.

Mental illness is defined by neither race nor ethnic origin. Neither is it confined to one’s immigration or citizenship status. Coulter used her column to distract from the Islamic jihad[6] taking place as she wrote her column and to thrust immigration back into the spotlight.

Coulter’s Obsession with Whites

Throughout her book tour, Coulter has lionized whites as the Founders of America and saviors of the world[7] and vilified non-WASP cultures[8] as “primitive,” “savage,” “barbarian.” Indeed, for Coulter, “all immigrants are bad.”[9]

In her column, Coulter correctly indicted the media with an anti-white bias, writing, “The media are tickled pink whenever they have a white perpetrator because it happens so rarely in a country that is majority white.”

Coulter’s conclusion, however, is fraudulent. She claims (emphasis added): “After 20 years of nearly non-stop mass murder by non-white immigrants in a country that is still majority white, our media have the audacity to claim that tens of thousands of Syrian Muslims are less dangerous than the most pacific human beings in world history: 21st-century white American men.”

Coulter was very selective in her choice of mass shootings to highlight (almost all of them derived from her book) to place an anti-immigrant slant to the discussion. Of course, she ignored many high-profile cases which refute her contention that “the most pacific human beings in world history [are] 21st-century white American men.”

We could begin with Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, whose 1999 Columbine, CO, massacre has become the model and inspiration for others. Harris and Klebold killed 13 and injured 21.

Here are a few of the more recent “mass shootings” committed by Coulter’s “pacific” white men:

Name Location Killed Injured Comments
Robert Lewis Dear Jr. Colorado Springs, CO 3 9 Mental illness
Dylan Roof Charleston, SC 9 1 White supremacist
John Russell Houser Lafayette, LA 2 9 Mental illness
Chris Harper Mercer Roseburg, OR 9 9 Mental illness
James Eagan Holmes Aurora, CO 12 70 Mental illness
Ryan Lanza Newtown, CT 28 2 Mental illness
Jared Lee Loughner Tucson, AZ 6 13 Mental illness

As with Coulter’s anti-immigrant list, most of the perpetrators listed above committed mayhem while mentally ill. One could argue the white supremacist in this list is also mentally ill. Immigration status had nothing to do with any of these tragedies. Whiteness – or Otherness – is not germane.

From the beginning, the San Bernardino attack had all the hallmarks of a Paris-style terrorist attack. The only question was by whom. In an astonishing tweet, Coulter totally missed the mark, tweeting: “This was an amazingly prescient column. I should have gone with my original subhead: ODDS ARE IT’S NOT WHITE MEN.”

Coulter, obsessed with race,[10] fails to grasp that this was an ISIS-inspired terrorist attack on U.S. soil – just as her column dismissed the threat posed by ISIS to Americans in America.

Coulter was wrong at the beginning of this year when she claimed “ISIS is not on our doorstep[11] and she is wrong now when she shrugs off domestic terrorism.[12]

Ben Carson is a White Guilt Candidate

In a remarkable appearance on the Mark Simone Show, Coulter reiterated her belief that GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson is a nominee merely because he is black. Earlier this year, Coulter claimed that Carson and Fiorina were candidates only because one is black, the other female.[1]

Carson White Guilt

On Simone’s show, Coulter argued:

“I think it’s another White Guilt Candidate with Ben Carson. I mean, he’s a lovely man, but – and a very impressive man – but there are a lot of lovely, impressive people out there who aren’t presidential. We go through this every Republican cycle, with Colin Powell, and Herman Cain, and now Ben Carson.”[2]

Coulter is so beset by her own version of identity politics that she must think Republicans are inherently racist and sexist.[3]

Yet, Coulter projects her own dysfunctional attitudes upon conservatives, chiding them: “Republicans have got to get out of this identity politics game – oh, we’ve gotta have a woman on the ticket, we’ve gotta have a black on the ticket – No! That’s not our party.”[4]

If anything, Coulter’s pride and arrogance[5] continue to grow as she sees herself as the one person in America who knows what is best for the nation fighting against all those opposed to her worldview and agenda.
