Public Resists Coulter’s Resistance Is Futile

Ann Coulter’s latest book, Resistance Is Futile, is classic Coulter. She exhibits her characteristic flair for effectively conveying her point of view. Earlier, I highlighted what Coulter gets right – and wrong in Resistance. Here are more salient observations, many of which you are probably unaware of.

Resistance - Public Resists

Dedicated to Deceased Bodyguard and Lover

Let me begin with what I “knew” about Resistance before it was published. I knew (from the very moment I heard the announcement that she was writing another book) that Coulter would dedicate this book to Floyd Resnick, now deceased. (Her second book, Slander, published in 2002, was dedicated to her deceased former editor, Robert Jones.)

I fully expected Resistance to be dedicated to Resnick, Coulter’s faithful, long-time bodyguard and lover. For a time, Coulter’s speaking contract even required first-class airfare for two. They went everywhere together.

RIP Floyd Resnick

I knew Floyd and, at one CPAC conference many years ago, I saw him lead Ann by the hand through the crowds, displaying a certain casual intimacy.

Resnick died on 11/11/16. In lieu of a public eulogy (or even a tweet), Ann gave him this book dedication.

Failing Book Tour

Coulter’s 13th book was released on August 21st to much fanfare and debuted near the bottom of the New York Times bestseller list (#14), only to precipitously plunge into a black hole the following week.

Her book’s disappointing showing (by Coulter standards) cannot be attributed to media bias as several similarly-themed books appeared higher on that list for longer periods of time.

Her (thus far) failing book tour and abysmal sales may be puzzling to some (my own forthcoming book will shed ample light on many factors for this), especially given Coulter’s energetic efforts to achieve success: two book launch parties; intense promotion from Breitbart, Daily Caller, and other Coulter-friendly news media; two appearances on the Rush Limbaugh Show; several appearances on Tucker Carlson’s highly popular Fox News TV show; and a slew of radio, television and print interviews.

Then there’s Coulter’s own Twitter following of over two million Twitter followers. With over two million followers, one would expect more than a paltry 13,100 books (including preorders) to be sold in the first three weeks (per Bookscan). Do Ann’s followers not like her? Not trust her?

Many Coulter followers don’t trust her because of her past history of lies and deception and her Romney-like shifting political positions.

Coulter’s biggest and most vocal fans support her immigration stand. Many of her fans are fixated upon her, in their words, being “hot.” Some of her biggest detractors are pro-Trumpers outraged at the depth and degree of her attacks on Trump. (It is striking that Trump has yet to comment on Resistance Is Futile.)

By my (albeit unscientific) observations, among her following, Ann has some very ardent admirers, many who are neutral and – to use a journalistically “precise” term – a helluva lot who vehemently hate her. (It is as if they follow her merely to criticize everything she tweets.)

Despite all of the positive factors favoring success, after three weeks, Resistance had sold in the mere tens of thousands. (Her previous book, In Trump We Trust, didn’t even make the bestseller list!)

Her fourth week also saw her fall short of a resurgence on the bestseller list, even though audience members at her speeches (Acushnet, MA, and Concord, NH) “purchased” her book as part of their tickets. (People wanting to meet Ann had to buy her book.)

Coulter on Her Own Book

But what does Coulter say about Resistance?

Resistance - better

Coulter typically boasts that all of her books are blockbusters (even when they’re not even bestsellers) and that her columns are excellent. On the Mark Simone Show (8/16/18), Coulter bragged,

“The chapter titles are excellent and they’re very short chapters with lots of headings because I am part of the Twitter generation. And notice it’s a nice short book. It has a lot of footnotes.”

I was particularly struck by one phrase, “I am part of the Twitter generation,” which is utterly absurd, yet she has repeated it on multiple talk shows, evidently considering it a snappy soundbite. If Coulter is part of a Twitter “generation” – whatever that is – then that “generation” spans scores of years.

Twitter was made for Coulter. She has always been good at quick quips and snappy repartee – thus perfect for Twitter. (Though she is prone to gaffes when tweeting off-the-cuff.)

But, no, she is hardly part of a Twitter “generation” which is largely populated by millennials and Generation Z, but also encompasses people of all ages. There “are over 67 million Twitter users in the U.S.

People using a social media platform who range in age from young children to senior citizens can hardly be called a “generation.” Is Ann trying to recapture her youth? Appear hip? Relevant? Perhaps she is trying to make herself more relevant or appear younger than she really is.

Contents of Resistance

Coulter’s writing is solid, including her trademark penchant for hyperbole, as with her concluding chapter title: “For Democracy to Live, We Must Kill the Media.” (Where’s the guillotine?)

(Presumably, Coulter is referring to the #FakeNewsMedia and not genuine journalism. Is Ann not part of the media? She is unclear as to whether she is targeting the institutions themselves, or the people within those institutions.)

As this table of contents indicates, Coulter addresses the hot issues of the day.

Resistance - TOC

Coulter’s Clever Title

Coulter’s titles are often clever and this one – Resistance is Futile – is no exception. Coulter effectively merges a contemporary political and cultural phenomenon with a well-known pop culture meme from twenty years ago.

Resistance - title

But, as with so many things Coulter, contradictions abound, and, in this case, her title itself proffers confusing ideological optics.

Within her book, Coulter accurately conveys the ultimate end results of the Left’s #Resistance movement while adopting its faulty historical and political precepts.

The Left’s #Resistance movement carefully portrays itself as comparable to and the moral heirs of the French Resistance in World War II, when, in fact, they are the enemies of Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity.

With #ViveLaResistance, Progressives conjure up images of determined French patriots resisting Nazi occupation (think Casablanca) and they infer that America is occupied by Nazi-like GOP leaders pursuing tyrannical control of America.

In Casablanca, Rick Blaine is the reluctant freedom-fighter while Victor Laszlo (not an American) is the courageous leader of the French Resistance. The Left loves Bogart’s character, but, now, have adopted Paul Henreid’s serious, combative, and irrepressible hero as a standard-bearer for their own cause – a cause against which the French Resistance would have ferociously fought.

Similarly, while Coulter’s Resistance is Futile accurately identifies the tyrannical and thuggish behavior – and anti-Liberty, anti-American nature – of the #Resistance, Coulter herself frequently emulates their ideology, behavior, tactics, and rhetoric.

Ironically, Coulter has chosen for the title a slogan beloved by tyrants from antiquity to sci-fi villains of the future (most notably, the Borg).

For today’s Progressives, GOP = Nazi = Borg.

Coulter’s title unconsciously confirms their viewpoint.

Coulter – Borg Queen

Coulter’s clever but contradictory title unwittingly presents herself as the villain (Borg Queen) and the #Resistance as heroic freedom fighters.

The irony of Coulter’s latest book title, Resistance is Futile, can’t escape one’s notice. It is a tyrannical imperative that has rung through the ages, most recently by the Nazis and Soviets (and other Socialists), the aliens of V, and, most memorably, by the Borg in the Star Trek franchise.

Strikingly, the Borg demand assimilation, as American nationalists do, albeit in a decidedly un-American, tyrannical, non-Melting pot paradigm.

Resistance is Futile - Borg

In 2015, Coulter spoke at the Eagle Forum’s Collegiate Summit, saying:

“There was no pussyfooting around. We’re assimilating you, you’re here, and you’re going to be an American. There will be no celebration of Cinco de Mayo, there will be no Ramadan, in fact there won’t even be a Feast of the Immaculate Conception – we are an Anglo-Protestant country, and you will learn about the Battle of Valley Forge.”

Resistance - dog

In Resistance, Coulter addresses very real problems of tyranny, violence, and mob rule on the Left while using a construct to promote her own hive mentality of the Alt-Right.

Coulter Is Part of the Resistance

Another great irony during the Trump presidency thus far is that Coulter has frequently been part of the #Resistance! She has often attacked Trump’s positive agenda (tax cuts, deregulation, and peace through strength, which she describes as commitment “to the Military Industrial Complex). Coulter also frequently raises the specter of impeachment.

Coulter told the Independent Journalism Review, “I would do it all over again. I would write In Trump We Trust all over again. At least he’s saying things. He may not be fully following through and I do have to swat him on the nose with a newspaper every once in a while.”

Resistance - Donnie

To Rush Limbaugh and his audience, Coulter said Trump “has a suck-up personality” and his “presidency is more of a transactional presidency. He does have to be swatted on the nose with a rolled up newspaper when he goes astray.” In other words, Coulter knows best!

Last year, as reported by the Washington Examiner and other media outlets (emphasis added), “Coulter said she and Trump were involved in a profanity-laced screaming match in the Oval Office last year over his immigration policy.” (Coulter claims that Trump “started it.” Still, Ann, it’s not a good approach to win hearts over to your side.)

Resistance - Oval Office

Not to be outdone, on The Next Revolution (9/16/18), Coulter argued, “If the Resistance were smart, they’d read my book and attack Trump for not building the wall.”

Nihilistic Annihilation

The corollary to “You will be assimilated” is the alternative: “You will be annihilated.”

Resistance - annihilated

Coulter has always had a bit of a Borg mindset. In the early 1990s, she wanted to eradicate feminism. Post-9/11, her mantra was “Kill, kill, kill.” In the 2000s, Coulter constantly spoke about how wonderful it would to have a world without liberals. During that same period, she was engaged in a jihad against both liberals and jihadists. Prior to and during the last presidential election cycle, Coulter sought the death of the GOP. (On September 23rd, Coulter’s tweetstorm demanded that we “crush the GOP.”)

Now, Coulter seeks the death of the press: “An essential component of saving the country is absolutely destroying the press. Not a brick upon a brick should remain. Then it can be rebuilt on more ethical lines.” (She fails to make clear distinctions between the #FakeNewsMedia and objective journalism.)

Coulter’s conclusion in Resistance is “We Must Kill the Media.” On The Next Revolution (9/16/18), Coulter pondered, “Maybe we do have to destroy everything first” – something a cultural Marxist would say.

Resistance - We Must Kill The Media

Remember, Coulter has been a canvas-cleanser for most of her adult life.

Coulter’s Genetic Superiority

Donald Trump’s ascendancy to the presidency gives legitimacy to – and greatly empowers – the Alt-Right.

its-in-the-genes

Ensconced in the White House, the nativist Alt-Right will seek to transform America into its own image.

In a stunning interview with Iain Dale of Britain’s LBC, Coulter claimed that “We’re a colony of yours.”

Coulter then asserted, “Most of us have a lot of British ancestry.” Coulter amplified what she regards as a “special relationship” with Britain that, “of course our two countries are very similar in culture, I mean, down to the genes.” (For years, Coulter has entertained the notion of WASP superiority – at a genetic level.)

It is not surprising that the high priestess of the Alt-Right lauds Trump’s decision to elevate Alt-Right guru Stephen Bannon as his chief strategist. Coulter told Howie Carr, “I think it’s quite brilliant.” She added, “I’m very impressed with Trump and this decision.”

Of course she is. In the end, Coulter and the Alt-Right seek to remake America into a white, WASP nation. Hence their obsession with race.

Ann Coulter Was Gang Raped!

Last night, Ann Coulter revealed, “I’ve been thrown down and gang raped at bars and on the New York City subway.”

Coulter Gang Raped

This is not the first time Coulter has claimed to be raped to emphasize a point for political purposes. Indeed, she seems to purposely trivialize rape.[1] Why? To end discussion. (Similar to the Left routinely employing charges of racism against its foes.)

Coulter’s breaking news last night was in the context of Michelle Fields’ proven claims to have been assaulted by Donald Trump’s campaign manager. Coulter’s full quote flings disdain at Fields:

“If that is a battery that we just saw on that screen, I’ve been thrown down and gang raped at bars and on the New York City subway.”

But the video does show Corey Lewandowski physically accosting Fields.

From the beginning, Coulter has sought to minimize the impact of Lewandowski’s criminal conduct, even going so far as to accuse Fields of assaulting Trump![2] (Trump has ludicrously done the same.)

Yesterday, Coulter made some bizarre claims – contradicted by witnesses and video, among them:

  • Fields attacked Trump, “Touches him, lunges at him.” Lunges? Not on the video she is analyzing.
  • Lewandowski brushed Fields’ shoulder. The video contradicts Coulter’s spin. It clearly shows Lewandowski grabbing Fields, yanking her arm, pulling her back. Fields was clearly moving toward Trump, then suddenly pulled back.
  • Coulter urged us, “You’ve got to watch the video,” yet, at the same time, tells us not to believe our own eyes.
  • Coulter then made her ludicrous comparison with the Duke Lacrosse rape hoax. The Duke rape allegation was a fabrication. Fields’ assault actually happened. Eyewitnesses corroborate her claims. So does the video. Let’s not forget the bruise on Fields’ arm.

Coulter employed a series of propaganda techniques[3] to shed doubt on what really happened and, thereby, to exonerate Trump and his henchman.

The big lie. Trump and Lewandowski are the victims, Fields is the culprit. Coulter: “In this case, [Trump] is the victim, not the victimizer.”

Subordinate lies. Fields lunged at Trump; Fields fabricated a hoax.

Rationalization. The video really doesn’t show what we clearly see because what the video shows refutes Coulter’s spin. (The big lie must be believed!)

Ridicule. Throughout her analysis, commentary, and social media postings, Coulter mercilessly mocked Fields, who, lest we forget, is the real victim.

Coulter equated concern for Fields’ justifiable grievances with politically correct “safe spaces [for] girl reporter’s shoulders.”

Dripping with sarcasm, Coulter posted: “Like Americans everywhere, I know I’ll always remember where I was when news arrived of the tragic assault on Michelle Fields. Whatever your politics, whatever your ethnicity or religion, please take a moment to pray for the recovery of brave Michelle Fields.
All respect to Harriet Tubman, but it’s Michelle Fields who should go on the $20 bill. Her courage will inspire generations yet unborn.”

Strawman argument. Coulter falsely charged Fields with claiming she had been “knocked down.” Fields made no such claim. Coulter scornfully tweeted: “As soon as Michelle Fields shows us on the doll how the mean campaign aide forcefully threw her to the ground.”

Minimization. After news of Lewandowski’s arrest, Coulter tweeted, “You’re right. Until this tape was released, I had no idea Corey actually brushed her shoulder!” Again, he did not brush her shoulder; he violently yanked her arm. Even after this tweet, Coulter repeated Lewandowski’s lie that he never touched her. The video cited by Coulter proves otherwise.

Coulter has proven herself to be as big a fraud as the candidate for whom she shills.

Coulter admits that Trump is a fraud[4] and that he is mental,[5] but calls him her Savior[6] because he alone will build a wall[7] (even though Cruz definitely would).

Coulter will say and do anything to get Trump nominated and elected, regardless of the consequences[8] and regardless of the collateral damage (in this case, justice and Fields’ reputation).

Will Ann Coulter Apologize to Michelle Fields?

When Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields was assaulted by Donald Trump’s campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, Ann Coulter attacked the victim.

In a series of nasty tweets, Coulter likened Fields’ credible and substantiated claims to phony rape hoaxes.

Michelle Fields

Eyewitnesses weren’t enough for Coulter and other Trump supporters.

Coulter’s initial defense of Lewandowski was tame, suggesting “Video Emerges to Suggest WaPo Reporter Ben Terris Misidentifies Lewandowski in Fields Incident.”

But just two minutes later, Coulter tweeted, “Charles Johnson’s $1,000 award for anyone w/ a video of @Corey causing Michelle Fields to lose her balance is safe.”

The next day, Coulter tweeted, “Smoking gun video of @CLewandowski allegedly assaulting Michelle Fields shows NOTHING. But the headline is damning!”

The day after, Coulter alleged (emphasis added), “it’s beginning to look like Michelle Fields assaulted Trump.” Yes, Coulter falsely accused Fields of assault!

Then Coulter began comparing Fields to phony rape hoaxers, asserting, “In honor of Michelle Fields ESPN just ran a 30 for 30 on the Duke Lacrosse case. Amazing documentary.”

Moreover, Coulter likened Trump to the Duke Lacrosse victims, tweeting, “The lone Duke student who bravely defended falsely-accused Duke students was Stephen Miller, Trump advisor.”

Continuing to bravely defend Trump’s campaign manager (now, why would she do that?), Coulter retweeted, “THRILLED that we finally have smoking gun footage of Lewandowski shanking Fields from ambush and then leaving her to b…”

Two weeks later, the truth has clearly emerged, Lewandowski did assault Fields, and Coulter wrongly savaged Fields (and her own credibility). (Why does Coulter extol bullies?)

Now that Lewandowski has been arrested for battery and video clearly confirms Fields’ charges, will Coulter apologize to Fields? To her followers? To anyone?

Update: Jonah Goldberg succinctly states the case: “Without rehashing the whole thing again with reference to frame-by-frame analysis best left for the Zapruder film, let me just say I think all of the important and relevant facts are on Fields’s side. There’s audio of her describing what happened immediately after the Corey Lewandowski incident. There are the bruises captured on film. There’s video and there are eye-witness accounts, all of which corroborate the basic story Fields has been telling.”

Are Coulter’s ‘Facts’ Right?

Ann Coulter has been sacked by the Truth[1] more often than RG3 has been sacked by the Detroit Lions.

Coulter often does speak truth, but she all too often tells lies. Discerning between truth and lies can be problematic with Coulter. During her latest book tour, Coulter has told countless lies. Small lies. Big lies. Smug lies. Hurtful lies. Shameful lies.

Sacked

One tactic Coulter uses to present her propaganda[2] (to promote herself and her agenda) is that of speaking with conviction. She will forcefully and vehemently lie with the expectation that her seeming conviction will convince others of her falsehoods.[3]

Coulter v. Colmes

Before highlighting some of the many falsehoods from Coulter’s current book tour (so many lies, so little time), it would be instructive to consider an exchange with Alan Colmes:[4]

Coulter: “The truth about immigration is always the same; the lies are always different. I look at the studies. You know, you have to read down and figure out, where’s the lie here? Where’s the lie there? They lie in all different kinds of ways.”

Colmes: “So whenever I present data you don’t like, you just say it’s a lie.”

Coulter: “Exactly!

Colmes: “So every study is wrong except the ones you quote?”

Coulter: “Look! I show the data. You can look at it yourself.”

Whenever Coulter is confronted with facts she cannot refute, she will dismiss them or deny their veracity.

Coulter’s False “Facts” on Her Book Tour

Here are just a few of Coulter’s many prevarications:

[The hyperlinked headings provide the truth about her fraudulent claims.]

ISIS poses no threat to the American homeland.[5] “I don’t even care about ISIS! … ISIS is not at our doorstep.”[6] And, “I have a little tip. If you don’t want to be killed by ISIS, don’t go to Syria.”[7]

ISIS: 0.[8] Dismissing the terrorist threat in America, Coulter concluded a column: “Now go back to worrying about ISIS.”[9]

America has taken in 25% of Mexico.[10] “America has already taken in one-fourth of Mexico’s entire population.”[11] And, “We’ve taken one quarter of Mexico’s population.”[12]

Civil rights[13] are only for blacks.[14] “The only time you should be able to sue for discrimination is if you are an African-American. That’s it! That’s it! I don’t want to hear about anybody else. You can hire whomever you want to. You can fire whomever you want to. … Civil rights are for blacks.”[15]

Diversity is white.[16] Ann Coulter’s America is exceedingly small and insular. Coulter crows, “It used to be more diverse, admittedly from white, Western European countries, mostly. But I consider, you know, the Scotch, the Irish, the English – I think that’s enough diversity. That really mixes it up for me.”[17]

America will be a WASP nation again.[18] Coulter explained (emphasis added): “It’s a monochromatic WASP country that other ethnicities have come to and for the first 400 years of its existence, (as a colony and then as a country) the ‘wildly diverse’ immigrants were other white western Europeans. That was the extent of the diversity.”[19]

And, “Send me a million people who want to come to America, and I will decide them all before breakfast. I can pretty much decide on looks; it would save a lot of money.”[20]

Coulter has never been accused of racism.[21] “One thing I have never been called, ah, is, is, is, is a racist. Um, anyone, anyone who reads my book – or, or Mugged – will see, um, that that would be a very difficult case to make.”[22]

All immigrants are bad.[23] “My only quibble with [Trump] is that, No. 1, it’s legal immigrants, too. And, No. 2, there are no good ones.”[24]

Pro-lifers are putzes[25] and sissies.[26] “Exactly. So sick of the anti-abortion machismo from right wing sissies.”[27]

And, “… their big thing is to keep talking about this abortion thing. Well, that’s great if it were 1977. I’d think you’re really brave and you’re doing a great thing. But I kind of think you’re just a putz imitating what was good forty years ago at this point.”[28]

Mitt Romney was better than Reagan.[29] “[Romney] did better than Reagan did. I think that’s pretty good.”[30] And “The best we ever had was Mitt Romney.”[31]

Donald Trump could win as a third-party candidate.[32] “[A third party candidacy] would be fantastic! Go, Trump, Go!”[33] And “I think he could be not only a nominee who could win but a third party candidate who could win.”

Hillary Clinton will be Democrat nominee.[34] “I promise you Jeb or Rubio are going to lead to a Hillary presidency.”[35] And, “You have to vote for Hillary over those two[36] [Bush and Rubio].”[37]

Nikki Haley is an ignorant immigrant:[38] “Well, I’m a student of American history. On the other hand, [Nikki Haley] is an immigrant and does not understand America’s history.”[39]

Ted Cruz is ineligible to be President:[40] “Ted Cruz gave a good answer on immigration. Too bad he’s not a natural born citizen!”[41]

Carly Fiorina is just a woman who can talk:[42] “I’ve turned against [Carly Fiorina] as of yesterday with the hot, hot hate of a thousand suns. … At first, I admit I was suspicious because I hate this, ‘Oh, a woman can talk, oh, isn’t that’s great?’”[43]

Ann Coulter is better that Donald Trump.[44] “Trump’s a piker compared to moi.”[45]

Coulter is Not Conservatism’s Best

Delusions of grandeur aside, Coulter cannot be trusted because she thinks too highly of herself and she regards her lies as superior to the truth that we all need to make informed decisions.

RG3 boasted: “I feel like I’m the best quarterback in the league, and I have to go out and show that … There’s guys in this league that have done way more than me. But I still view myself as the best because that’s what I work toward every single day.”

Throughout her book tour,[46] Coulter has boasted about her superiority,[47] praising herself[48] and her book.[49]

Coulter is sacked by truth on a weekly, if not almost daily, basis. Until Coulter speaks the truth and sticks with the truth, Conservatives should not stick with Coulter.[50]

Honest Ann? Honestly?

Ann Coulter seems intent upon continually out-Coultering herself. Yesterday, she claimed: “If you crave association with honest people, you’ll love Ann Coulter!”[1]

When it comes to truth, Coulter is frequently truth-deprived. Coulter has a trust deficit because she has a truth deficit. (Not unlike Hillary Clinton.)[2]

Honest

Let’s consider Ann’s record over just the past nine weeks, during her current book tour.

Coulter has lied about …

Even after her claims have been debunked, Coulter repeats them – and even amplifies to them.

For quite some time, Coulter has been living in an alternative universe[17] where she envisions and ascribes various and sundry superlatives to herself[18] (best Christian, conservative, libertarian, pro-lifer, etc.).

Why is Coulter not trusted? It all has to do with Coulter’s integrity and veracity,[19] or lack thereof.

To be trusted, one must be trustworthy. Coulter is not.
