Coulter Hates ‘THE RULES’ That Thwart Trump

In her Trumpmania column of the week, Trump apologist Ann Coulter decries the various state and local election laws (“THE RULES,” as she emphasized nine times) which have frustrated and may well thwart Trump’s presidential ambitions.[1]

The RULES

Coulter regurgitates the false narrative of the election being stolen from Trump and she reprises her own fabrication that Cruz is ineligible to be elected president.[2] That birther claim has been consistently debunked by constitutional law, history, and logic,[3] as well as in every court where it has been tested.

Coulter, who has inexplicably and inextricably linked[4] her career and reputation[5] to yet another failed candidacy,[6] now frantically seeks to prevent a Cruz victory, even if it means the destruction of the conservative movement[7] and the further suicidal transformation of America from what we once knew to, as Coulter puts it, a “Third World Hellhole.”

Actually, there is reason in her madness. Coulter latched onto Trump as a means to promote herself, her book, and her agenda. Now that the real Donald Trump has emerged[8]a Donald Trump who would never pursue her agenda[9] – Coulter is in denial and desperately deflects attention from the truth and from her own culpability. When Trump falls, so does Coulter.

Foisting RINO Romney on America[10] was bad enough (at least Romney is an honorable man), but libertine liberal Donald Trump?[11] Shame on you, Ann![12]

Coulter’s Orwellian Opus

Ann Coulter seeks to impose her will on the American people by using a variety of Orwellian propaganda techniques.

Orwellian Opus

Her column, “Moonie for Cruz,” is a perfect example. In it, she employs a host of Orwellian constructs to turn reality upside-down.

With just 1,241 words, polemicist Ann Coulter provided an excellent example of Orwellian rhetoric.

Primaries vs. Caucuses

Coulter began her column contending that Trump winning primaries is better than Cruz winning caucuses, which she regards as inferior and somehow illegitimate. She neglected to point out that open primaries enabled Democrats to vote for Trump, people who will arguably vote Democrat in November.

Coulter even ludicrously claimed “that a brokered Republican convention is more likely to end with Bernie as the nominee than Cruz.” Coulter is desperate to prevent a Cruz victory,[1] truth be damned.

Big Lie

This leads to Coulter’s Big Lie: Donald Trump is the real deal and a true American patriot who will win, win, win;[2] Ted Cruz is a liar and a fraud and he cannot win. Reality is, of course, the exact opposite.[3]

Coulter claims “that Trump was the choice of a majority of Republican voters,” when, in fact, the majority of Republican voters have voted against Trump. (Coulter and Trump both need to grasp the difference between “majority” and “plurality.”)

Two Minutes Hate

In Orwell’s world, Big Brother orchestrated a daily “Two-Minutes Hate” and a periodic “Hate Week” to demonize political foes. Big Brother’s campaign was intensely emotion-laden and reason free.

Utterly ignoring the very real and indisputable cult of Trump, Coulter lambasted imaginary “Cruz cultists,” claiming they “don’t even care about plain honesty.” (Yes, Ann, honesty is “a conservative value.” Try it sometime.)[4]

Coulter blasted the apocryphal “Cruz cultists” as “guttersnipe, lying political operators like the Clintons.” Her column is replete with such ad hominem invective.[5]

Emmanuel Goldstein

Coulter’s archenemy, Emmanuel Goldstein, is a composite “Cruz cultist” which bears no resemblance to reality.

Coulter quipped, “If James Carville and Paul Begala had a baby, it would be a Cruz supporter.” Physically impossible (does Ann know anatomy?), neither progenitor is apt. Indeed, both would be far more apropos of a Trump, not a Cruz, supporter. Projection?[6]

No one has likened Cruz to either Carville or Begala. However, Cruz has been likened to Ronald Reagan.

A more factually-based quip would be something like, “If Twiggy and Miley Cyrus had a baby, it would be Ann Coulter.” After all, Coulter has been called[7]Twiggy with Tourette’s” and “the Miley Cyrus of political commentary.”

According to Coulter, “Cruz has flipped to Trump’s side on every important political issue of this campaign.” She asserts that Cruz favored “Legalizing illegal aliens” and “now is against it.” In the non-Orwellian universe, Cruz has always opposed amnesty and he courageously introduced a “poison pill” amendment to prevent legalization of illegal aliens. One of Coulter’s citations actually proves that point.

Coulter also claims Cruz opposed a wall before he was for it, but her citation does not support her conclusion. Cruz has always favored a wall.[8]

Still, Coulter lies, claiming Cruz has changed all of these positions “since being a senator – most of them he’s flipped on only in the last year.” But Cruz has not flipped. Cruz has been consistent.

2 + 2 = 5

Don’t believe your lying eyes. That’s the message from Coulter and that’s the message from Trump.

Coulter has changed Orwell’s formulation – “whatever the Party holds to be the truth, is truth” – to “whatever Ann and The Donald hold to be truth, is truth.” With this crucial corollary, “especially if it is not.”

Coulter offered a series of alleged lies by the Cruz camp. But every alleged lie about Trump really is true! [See hyperlinks for truth!]

Coulter spent considerable time (six paragraphs) defending Trump’s irrefutable pro-abortion record, actually claiming that he is now “fully pro-life.” Coulter avers, “But to claim Trump is pro-choice today – present tense – is what’s known as a ‘lie.’”

Coulter’s whopper is obviously so!

Coulter’s Claims

Coulter devoted another four paragraphs to Trump’s desire for universal health care, claiming it isn’t what we all know it is. Trump wants to replace Obamacare with Trumpcare, but Coulter calls this an “insane lie” by “Cruz and his cult-like followers.”

Typically Orwellian, in Coulter’s world, Trump’s opponents are somehow not just wrong, but either evil or crazy. (Coulter has applied that very dichotomy – evil or crazy – to the Left for two decades!)

Coulter devoted a lengthy paragraph to defending an assault by “Trump’s campaign manager Corey Lewandowski.” Coulter’s characterization of the event: “criminal battery for brushing past a female reporter.” Actually, it is misdemeanor battery for intentionally grabbing Michelle Fields’ arm and jerking her backward.[14] Coulter denies the video proof and absurdly compares it to Clinton apologists who claimed Clinton “did not commit perjury when he denied having ‘sexual relations’ with Monica Lewinsky.”

Two additional paragraphs addressed Coulter’s criticism of Trump for his Heidi Cruz retweet. Coulter affirmed her slavish devotion to Trump, despite calling him “mental.”[15] If Coulter supports a “mental” Trump, what does that say about Coulter?

Why would Coulter tell such big and small lies? Because she believes that “Trump is the only presidential candidate in my lifetime who will build a wall, deport illegals and pause the importation of Muslims.”

The problem, for those who are familiar with Trump’s views, is that Trump actually favors amnesty[16] and wants a “big, fat beautiful door right in that wall” to allow the immediate return of those illegals that he deports. In fact, Trump is the one candidate who won’t do what Coulter wants done![17]

Ann Coulter = Leni Riefenstahl

Coulter has often been accurately compared to Leni Riefenstahl,[18] the infamous Nazi film propagandist. She really is a propagandist par excellence. With her razor-sharp mind, quick wit, and extensive vocabulary, Coulter is adept at the manipulation of truth and people. (However, Coulter is sadly lacking in wisdom and honesty.)

On radio and talk shows, Coulter made the audacious claim that the Great Depression was part of “the most prosperous period in American history.”[19] No one challenged her on this. Everyone accepted her claim as true. Coulter said it, therefore 2 + 2 = 5.

For this reason[20] (and others),[21] a growing number of conservatives and Christians[22] no longer trust Coulter.[23]

Donald Trump is a libertine liberal masquerading as a conservative.[24] Coulter, who once championed constitutional and cultural conservatism, now knowingly embraces the vulgar and bullying nature of Trump’s candidacy,[25] proving that she is no better than Trump.[26]

Ann Coulter’s Flights of Fantasy

Given her frequent flights of fantasy, one wonders why anyone listens to Ann Coulter.

Recently, Coulter insisted that she could arrange a détente which would yield her Dream Ticket: Trump-Romney.[1] Simply delusional. Since then, Coulter has been spiraling downward.[2]

Fantasy

Coulter has redefined terms, such as “real American,” traitor,” and “patriot,” spoken of vast conspiracies, and displayed paranoia.

Employing a variety of Orwellian techniques, Coulter has become a propagandist who is no longer able to discern fact from fantasy.

Real Americans!

Yesterday, Stephen Nemo made some absurd claims. His introductory paragraph asserted: “Ann Coulter is hated by Democrats, but she’s also a pariah among Republicans. Why? She still believes in conservatism and the rule of law.”

Nemo has drunk the Coulter-aid.

In truth, Coulter abandoned Conservatism[3] and Christianity[4] many years ago. As for the rule of law, why is she constantly lying about it? Coulter continues to lie about Supreme Court[5] cases[6] in order to influence national politics.

The person Coulter said she blindly worships as her Savior,[7] The Donald, is not a conservative![8] Moreover, Trump cares about what is best for Trump,[9] not for America.

As evidence for his claim of Coulter’s fidelity to conservatism and the rule of law, Nemo quoted a recent Coulter column: “Conservative pundits keep assuring clueless [television] viewers that Trump is not a ‘real Republican.’”

Nemo omitted these words from her essay: “I certainly hope he’s not a ‘real Republican.’” Nemo did, however, continue with her next words: “I know he’s a real American. Those used to be the same thing.”

In other words, “real Republicans” are no longer “real Americans.”

For decades, Coulter has defined who “real Americans” are per her own malleable standards. As I noted last September,[10] Coulter was wrong then and she is wrong now!

Coulter defines not only who Americans are but she also pinpoints where the traitors can be found.

Treason Without Reason

Displaying both hyperbole and paranoia on steroids, Coulter tweeted (emphasis added): “Fox News & Cruz are American traitors, in league with the liberal establishment. Silent majority must face fire from a unified oligarchy.”[11]

American Thinker provided the Cruz quote which prompted “Coulter foaming at the mouth.” After condemning the violence at Trump’s rally in Chicago, Cruz said, “when you have a campaign that disrespects the voters, when you have a campaign that affirmatively encourages violence, when you have a campaign that is facing allegations of physical violence against members of the press, you create an environment that only encourages this sort of nasty discourse.”

American Thinker correctly observed: “Never mind that the ‘unified oligarchy’ Coulter decries is a unified oligarchy elected by the American people; the main point is that every word, every syllable, every letter of the above quote is absolutely and verifiably true.” (He then provided a surfeit of details.)

Upon hearing of Rubio’s epic defeat in his home state of Florida, Coulter again furthered her treason motif, tweeting (emphasis added), “Media’s favorite line tonight: Rubio lost because he was too optimistic. Yeah, the whole treason thing had nothing to do with it.”[12]

In 2003, Coulter declared as traitors everyone who disagreed with even just one item of the GOP platform. To her, all Democrats and liberals were guilty of treason. Now, Coulter calls Republicans, conservatives, and Christians[13] “traitors” for disagreeing with her on one single issue: immigration.

Back then, the entirety of the Left were treasonous in Coulter’s eyes. Now, a huge swath on the Right have joined their ranks. Oh, and, by the way, Coulter’s definition of “treason” is not a legal one, but an elastic one dependent upon her own personal whim. Moreover, Coulter misuses the term for its effect as emotional vernacular to bypass reason and facts.

Propaganda With Paranoia

A gifted linguist, Coulter is, indeed, adept at propaganda. She knows how to manipulate language to manipulate people. Orwell’s Newspeak and doublethink could have been designed just for her.[14]

Since the release of her latest book, Coulter’s commentary has been replete with errors[15] and outright fabrications. Who knew that the Great Depression “was the most prosperous period in American history?”[16]

One particular tweet required a great deal of chutzpah to publish (as well as a certain disdain for her readership). Gloating over Trump’s Florida victory, Coulter tweeted (emphasis added), “To beat Rubio, Trump had to beat: Fox, entire MSM, National Review, Salem Radio, every major GOP donor…MAYBE VOTERS WANT LESS IMMIGRATION!”[17]

The entire tweet in all of its particulars is incorrect. Coulter consistently claims a conspiracy among political and media elites to foil Trump’s candidacy. According to Coulter, Fox News is part of that grand conspiracy.

Fox News? Matt Walsh recently exposed her lies on this, writing, “All the other dull, blathering Trump sycophants on Fox News, like Andrea Tantaros and Eric Bolling and Kimberly Guilfoyle and other various Trump shills who’ve now taken to declaring that ‘principles don’t matter.’ The Fox morning show team hands airtime to Trump whenever he demands it, and they sit in admiration listening to him blabber on like infatuated school boys pretending to be interested in what the pretty girl in class is saying. But they’re of course not as bad as Joe Scarborough over on MSNBC, who was recently caught on camera taking instructions from Trump about what questions he can ask.”

Walsh continued: “Trump and his groupies complain that Fox is ‘unfair’ to him, but those of us who haven’t had our brains cooked by Trump fever recognize that, with the exceptions of Megyn Kelly, Bret Baier, Greg Gutfeld and a few others, the entire network slobbers over him like a cheerleader fainting when the varsity quarterback asks her to the prom.”

As of January 26, 2016, Donald Trump had already appeared on Fox News and Fox Business News 132 times[18] – far more than any other candidate. That number has undoubtedly skyrocketed since then.

Entire MSM? The mainstream media is hardly a monolith and it has provided more coverage of Trump than any other candidate in any other election in history. It covers Trump rallies and speeches, often without commentary, while overlooking other candidates. Trump gets air time whenever he wants it. Also, Trump has bullied many media outlets into acquiescence.

The Media Research Center frequently notes the disparate coverage afforded Trump at the expense of his opponents, even in GOP debates. Most recently, Breitbart, known as Trump’s personal Pravda, has come under fire for covering up Trump scandals and betraying its reporters and readers.

The Sun Times reported that the media “gave Trump $400 million worth of free coverage in just one month’s time.” In total, Trump has received about $2 billion in free air time.

Back in 1999, Coulter was incensed at any publicity that Sen. John McCain received during his 2000 election campaign. Coulter asked of McCain, “Courageous, independent, or bought?” and accused him of “shilling [for] the newspaper industry in return for favors worth millions of dollars in campaign donations.”[19]

Is Trump shilling now?

National Review? National Review is one of the few media outlets actually opposed to Trump, not out of treasonous hatred for America but, rather, with fervor for journalistic integrity, the Constitution, liberty, conservatism, and the rule of law. (Yes, conservatism and the rule of law, Mr. Nemo.)

While the “entire MSM” has failed to focus on Trump’s moral and business failings, National Review put together “a comprehensive roundup of the man’s disastrous [business] record.”

Salem Radio? Salem Radio is hardly part of a Vast Left and Right Wing Conspiracy. Sadly, many Christian leaders have actually jumped aboard the Trump bandwagon, seemingly willing to abandon both biblical and conservative principles for the elevation of someone they regard as a protector of their rights and freedoms. However, Trump is merely a bloviating bully[20] with disdain for the Constitution and he would govern with his own version of Obama’s pen and a phone.[21]

Every Major GOP Donor? GOP donors were hardly united against Trump. Many funded attacks against Cruz, Trump’s biggest rival.

Immigration? Immigration – Trump’s (and Coulter’s) signature issue – regularly places around fourth in exit polling, demonstrating that Coulter is wrong about the reason for Trump’s success thus far. Voters are outraged, want change, and are looking for a strongman to forcefully reverse the course our government is presently on.

Ironically, Coulter’s zealous devotion to Trump is itself predicated on a lie. Coulter insists that Trump is the best candidate on her core issue – immigration – yet, Trump has proven himself a fraud on immigration.[22] Trump admits he is flexible on immigration and he actually promotes amnesty (“touchback deportation”). To ensure a Trump victory, Coulter has repeatedly[23] lied[24] about Ted Cruz,[25] the one candidate who has a proven record of defending the border and preserving our national sovereignty.

Ann Coulter’s Upside Down World

Erstwhile ultra-conservative Ann Coulter now worships faux conservative Donald Trump as her Savior and claims genuine conservatives are traitors. (It used to be she called liberals traitors; now it’s conservatives!)

Upside Down World

An avowed pro-lifer, Coulter has berated and defamed pro-lifers for nearly two decades.

A fierce opponent of Obamacare, now Coulter is ready to embrace Trumpcare.

Once an advocate for federalism and limited government, Coulter now shills for a statist who would wield his own pen and a phone.

A self-proclaimed constitutional attorney, Coulter defames the only constitutionalist running for president while championing the only “Republican” running against the Constitution.

A virulent anti-immigration, anti-amnesty activist, Coulter defends Trump who did and does support amnesty. This is Coulter’s signature issue – her obsession – and she backs someone who unquestionably supports amnesty while she continually thinks he doesn’t.

Coulter is lost in her own little world into which she won’t allow reality to enter.

Who is really surprised? Coulter has been supporting RINOs and spouting propaganda for years. Now she has gone incredibly far over the edge, losing more and more credibility.

Will the real Ann Coulter please stand up!

Trump’s Phony Wall

Donald Trump’s signature issue is immigration and border security. On that issue (as on most issues), he is a fraud!

Trump promises to build a yuuge wall – with a big door!

Trump promises to deport all illegal aliens – and bring them back!

Phony wall

Yuuge Wall with an Open Door

The centerpiece of Trump’s immigration policy (and the major plank of his platform) is building a wall. In his words, “I will build a great, great wall on our southern border and I will have Mexico pay for that wall.”

An exuberant Ann Coulter, Trump’s greatest supporter, has introduced him at several rallies. Coulter gushed, “I love the idea of the Great Wall of Trump. I want to have a two drink minimum. Make it a big worldwide tourist attraction and everyday live drone shows whenever anyone tries to cross the border.”[1]

But will the Great Wall of Trump ever come to pass?

But let’s not forget the fine print. Trump added, “I don’t mind having a big, fat beautiful door right in that wall so that people can come into this country legally.”

That’s right, a great, great wall with a big, fat door. Border security with a sieve.

The Donald’s son, Eric Trump, explained the purpose of that door: “ The point isn’t just deporting them, it’s deporting them and letting them back in legally. He’s been so clear about that and I know the liberal media wants to misconstrue it, but it’s deporting them and letting them back legally.

Ironically, as reported by Ed Straker, “ it was Cruz, not Trump, who first pushed a border fence not just with rhetoric, but with legislation, and it was Trump who started talking about the need for a border fence after Cruz started pushing for it. Because up to then, Trump was a pro-amnesty liberal democrat.”

Touchback Deportation & Amnesty

Inextricably intertwined with Trump’s monumental, Eighth Wonder of the World, wall is his policy on immigration – what the wall will secure Americans against. Having a “great, great wall” with a “big, fat beautiful door” kind of defeats the purpose of the wall in the first place.

Trump repeatedly promises to deport massive numbers of illegal immigrants – and to let the good ones return. Amnesty has been his position since at least August 2013, when he tweeted: “Congress must protect our borders first. Amnesty should be done only if the border is secure and illegal immigration has stopped.”

Yes, Trump actually used the verboten word “amnesty.” (Don’t tell Ann Coulter. She just might get upset. Why? She loves Trump,[2] asserting that he is the only candidate opposed to amnesty.[3])

But Trump endorses amnesty. He said, “I would get people out and then have an expedited way of getting them back into the country so they can be legal…. I want to move ’em out, and we’re going to move ’em back in and let them be legal.”

That’s right. Trump wants to expedite the process for illegal aliens to become legal in America. He reiterated his views, saying, “I would expedite [the process], because some of these people (illegal aliens) are fantastic people. … So what I’d do is that I would expedite it. … I want to expedite it so they can come back in legally.”

Cruz, on the other hand, fully opposes amnesty: “My position is very simple. I oppose amnesty. I oppose citizenship. I oppose legalization … Today, tomorrow, forever. I believe in the rule of law.”

Trump, and his shill Coulter, continually castigate Marco Rubio for his participation in the Gang of Eight bill, neglecting to mention Trump’s own support of that very same bill by financing its sponsors! As reported by Red State, Trump “proposes roughly the same wall that was already put forth in the Gang of 8 bill (roughly 1,000 miles).”

Moreover, Trump is not the restrictionist Coulter imagines. Though he has spoken out against H-1B visas, Trump has “sought to import at least 1,100 foreign workers on temporary visas since 2000.”

It is not surprising that a large percentage of Nevadan Hispanics voted for Trump, given his pro-amnesty views and his history of hiring illegal aliens to cater to his personal and professional needs. Trump admits, “You know, the truth is I have a lot of illegals working for me in Miami.”

Trump employs illegal aliens at the expense of American workers. If Trump will not build a figurative wall around his business enterprises to protect American workers, why should we believe he will build an actual wall along our southern border to defend American sovereignty?

Red State also reported that, “in 1991, a judge found that Trump has conspired with business associates to hire illegal workers and cheat them of their pay.”

Trump also favors accepting Syrian refugees, insisting, “I hate the concept of it, but on a humanitarian basis, you have to [because] it’s living in hell in Syria. There’s no question about it. They’re living in hell, and something has to be done.”

Yes, the Great Wall of Trump is a mirage, one worthy of a Las Vegas casino.

Update: See Ian Tuttle’s excellent analysis of Trump’s “flexible” immigration and H-1B visa policies. David French explores the lunacy of believing anything Trump promises about anything – particularly immigration.

Update: Andrew McCarthy delved deeply into Trump’s “plan” to build a wall, demonstrating how nonsensical, anti-Constitutional, and authoritarian it really is.

Ann Coulter … Dangerously Wrong!

As America braces for a heightened terrorist threat over this Fourth of July weekend, Tucker Carlson exclaimed, “Of course, we’re going to raise the fist of defiance against tyranny.”[1]

Meanwhile, Ann Coulter – fiery neoconservative turned xenophobic paleo-conservative – utterly rejects reality, claiming ISIS poses no threat to Americans in the homeland. All to promote her brand, her book, and herself.

Wrong

Yes, Coulter vigorously denies what everyone else knows to be true: ISIS is in America.[2] But, according to Coulter, the media’s focus on ISIS is part of a grand conspiracy to distract Americans from the real threat to America: immigration. (Not coincidentally, the subject of her latest book.)[3]

Even the Obama administration admits what it is reluctant to acknowledge (and what Coulter denies)[4]: ISIS poses a grave threat to Americans at home.

Coulter claims, “If you don’t want to be killed by ISIS, don’t go to Syria.”[5] In contrast, Michael McCaul (R-TX), Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, warns: “They’re already in the United States. You don’t have to travel to Syria. They’re already here!”

ISISisHere

Coulter claims, “ISIS is not at our doorstep.”[6] Coulter’s close friend, Pamela Geller, warns, Geller warned: “ISIS is here. Islamic terrorism is here.” Will Coulter listen?

Yes, indeed, ISIS is here, posing a threat to every American.[7]

TerrorUSA

Coulter risks American lives to promote her own agenda and to sell herself and her books.[8]

Remember, this Fourth of July, Coulter is not looking out for America, she is looking out for herself.

Update: In the wake of the terrorist attack in Chattanooga, TN, on July 16th, we should recall Coulter’s words just nine days earlier: “Yes, it could have been any weekend. I’ve noticed, we’ve all been warned all week, ‘Watch out for ISIS! Watch out for ISIS this weekend.’ And no, instead, Americans were killed by immigrants.”[9]

ISIS is here!

Adios, Ann: Fear Mexicans, Not Jihadists!

If we can’t trust Ann Coulter with basic biographical information,[1] then how can we trust Ann Coulter with so-called “facts” that she presents in her columns or books?[2]

With Adios, America! Coulter both exaggerates the immigration crisis and denies the jihadist threat to (and in) America. In reality, these are intertwined and interrelated crises. But, in her book and during her book tour, Coulter single-mindedly fixates on the former and willfully ignores the latter, as if we can’t dance and sing at the same time.

Adios2

Moreover, in seeking to STOP! immigration, she would do nothing do address either immigrants currently here legally or the rapidly growing jihadist movement within America.

Coulter asserts, “I am a maniacal researcher.”[3] If true, then why does she get so much wrong? (With 89 pages of endnotes, one would think greater accuracy would be attainable.) Coulter …

  • Cites statistics and anecdotal evidence to suggest that every illegal alien and legal immigrant is harmful to the United States.
  • Denies the growing jihadist threat in America and would do nothing to combat it.
  • Falsely claims that America has taken in 25% of the Mexican population.
  • Offers conspiracy theories.

Fear Mexicans = Islamic Jihadists

In a controversial (e.g., normal for Ann) interview, Coulter astonished the predominantly Latino studio audience with this claim: “I have a little tip. If you don’t want to be killed by ISIS, don’t go to Syria. If you don’t want to be killed by a Mexican, there’s nothing I can tell you.”[4]

Syria

Ending the lengthy silence of a stunned audience, Coulter added a demonstrably untrue assertion,[5] “Very easy to not be killed by ISIS. Don’t fly to Syria.”

Here – and throughout her discussion on immigration – Coulter proffers a moral equivalency between Mexican immigrants and Islamic jihadists, regarding both as equally dastardly. For this entire century, Coulter has asserted that all Muslims are potential terrorists (and all liberals are de facto traitors). Now, she is apparently asserting that all Mexicans are potentially violent criminals.

Coulter ignores the obvious: while some Mexicans are criminals, all terrorists are evil.

In differentiating between terrorists and illegal aliens[6] or legal immigrants, we must remember that there are differences in kind, in degree, and in motivation.

One group is terroristic, will do anything to further the cause of Islamic jihad, and seeks the destruction of America. The other group is not, will not, and does not.

Coulter says that the bulk of her book addresses legal immigration. She said, “Somalis leaving to fight with ISIS. Those are legal immigrants.”[7]

Yet, Coulter admits, “I don’t even care about ISIS!”[8]

Why not? She asserts, “ISIS is not at our doorstep.” But in her book, Coulter says that Somali immigrants legally in America are joining ISIS.

Disconnect?

Don’t Fear Jihadists

While Coulter exaggerates the immigration threat, she minimizes the terrorist threat.

In her obsession to attack immigrants and illegals, Coulter denies the threat posed to every American by domestic Islamic jihad.[9]

Beyond being outright wrong, Coulter’s formulation – “don’t go to Syria” – actually blames the victims of terrorist attacks.

Brigitte Gabrielle, of Act for America, says, “The Islamic State is one of the greatest threats to our homeland. Its goal is to establish a caliphate governed by Islamic Law.”

On her website:

“At least 60 terrorist plots targeting the United States have been foiled since 9/11, largely prevented by U.S. law enforcement. The top five post-9/11 domestic targets include the U.S. Military (16 plots); New York City (14 plots); mass gatherings (nine plots); mass transit (eight plots); and critical infrastructure and Washington, D.C. (six plots each).”

“Through its seizure of oilfields, banks, weapons, and other resources, ISIS has amassed a war chest estimated to total $2 billion according to NBC News. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) warns that ‘the threat ISIS poses cannot be overstated.’ Feinstein, who has criticized President Barack Obama for being ‘too cautious’ in confronting ISIS, calls the terror group ‘the most vicious, well-funded and militant terrorist organization we have ever seen.’”[10]

Indeed, Islamists are seeking to establish sharia law in America.

But Coulter asks, “Why are we talking about ISIS when you would have to get on six connecting flights and walk through the mountains to put yourself in danger of being killed by ISIS?”[11]

Coulter is wrong[12] – and Coulter knows it!

Coulter lavished praise in a blurb for one of Robert Spencer’s books, writing, “Religion of Peace? is the perfect book to give liberals who fervently believe that Christianity is as dangerous – if not more dangerous – than Islam. Robert Spencer skewers the liberals’ paranoid and suicidal hatred of Christianity while reminding us how they ignore the real threat: Islamic jihadists with bombs. This splendid book demonstrates that what Islamic terrorists hate about the West is not its MTV, not the easy availability of pornography and abortion, but its Christian tradition. This goes a long way toward explaining why liberals never wanted to fight this war in the first place. Spencer’s book is well written, heavily researched, and a clarion call to America to wake up and fight back.”

Coulter’s lifelong friend, Pamela Geller, the organizer of the Draw Mohammed Contest, has been combating Islamic jihad in America for the better part of two decades, so this can’t be news to Coulter.

jihadbooks

Moreover, from the moment 9/11 took place,[13] Coulter had been a ferocious warrior against, seemingly, the whole of Islam. Now, Coulter has been abundantly clear: “I don’t even care about ISIS!”[14]

In the wake of the latest Islamist attack in Boston, Geller warned: “This is just the beginning. The one thing that’s being ignored that came out of Garland, Texas, is that ISIS is here. Islamic terrorism is here. Now. Will the media realize what’s at stake and that their heads are next? Or will they continue to target me because they hate my message of freedom? That’s the question.”

False “Facts”

Coulter boasted, “There are a lot of unbelievable facts in this book.”[15] Coulter is right! Some of her “facts” are unbelievable because they are wrong.

According to Coulter, “America has already taken in one-fourth of Mexico’s entire population.”[16] Conservatives and immigration foes have recited that factoid as if it were holy writ. It is wrong!

Coulter’s “facts” are often wrong.[17] She misconstrues the data on Mexicans, falsely claiming that we have “taken in” one quarter of the Mexican population. Wrong! 65% of the Mexicans cited in the report were born in America!

Coulter’s hatred of foreigners is legendary.[18] Here, she is claiming Americans by birth are foreigners.

According to Coulter’s very own source material:

“A record 33.7 million Hispanics of Mexican origin resided in the United States in 2012, according to an analysis of Census Bureau data by Pew Research Center. This estimate includes 11.4 million immigrants born in Mexico and 22.3 million born in the U.S. who self-identified as Hispanics of Mexican origin.”

Moreover, “In the decade from 2000 to 2010, that pattern reversed – births surpassed immigration as the main driver of the dynamic growth in the U.S. Mexican-origin population.”

One liberal blogger addressed Coulter’s absurdity is a Coulteresque fashion: “Using Coulter’s flawed logic, if we were to analyze the number of people of Irish descent in the United States, the country has taken in 737 percent of the population of Ireland.”

Coulter – not a mathematician – still claims, “We’ve taken one quarter of Mexico’s population. … lives in the United States.”[19]

On the John Gibson Show, Coulter doubled-down on her claim: “A quarter [of the population of Mexico]. At a minimum – a minimum!”[20]

Yet, Coulter accuses Republicans of stupidity, saying, “It’s not even just cowardice on the part of Republicans. It’s abject stupidity. It’s an inability to do math.”[21]

What about Coulter’s math?

Coulter’s source: “That’s from the Pew Research Center. They don’t specifically say quote ‘One quarter of the population’ but they say there are 30 million Mexican immigrants and of Mexican descent living in the United States. Well, Mexico’s about 120 million people.”[22]

If 30 million people came from Mexico into the United States, then Mexico’s population was closer to 150 million before the mass exodus. Thus, that 30 million would be 20% of 150 million.

But, the report that Coulter cites as authoritative actually reports that two-thirds of that cohort were born in America. Yes, Coulter is citing Americans as being “taken in” from Mexico.

Coulter’s figures are wrong! Two-thirds of people with Mexican ancestry in America were born in America. They were never “taken out” of Mexico. That drops the percentage down to less than 7% of the Mexican population.

[To be technical, 120 million (current Mexican population) + 11 million (Mexican expatriates) = 131 million. 11 million is 8% percent of 131 million.]

Coulter’s Conspiracy Theories

Last summer, Coulter made a discovery. She claimed to have unearthed a conspiracy! Coulter accused the entire media – from the New York Times to Fox News – of lying about the loophole which allows Central American children to receive special treatment at the border.[23]

Unlike her alleged conspiracy, the loophole that she claimed was nonexistent was real.

Yesterday, Coulter offered up another conspiracy theory, claiming the media, open borders liberals, establishment conservatives, and corporate America are conspiring to destroy America. (Everyone, that is, but a few bloggers, Hannity, and Coulter!)

On the Sean Hannity Show,[24] Coulter contended: “The media are conspiring to hide the evidence.” Beyond the media, she asserted: “Everyone is conspiring to change this country in a way that crushes the middle class, crushes the working class, that Americans absolutely do not want.”

Indeed, she argues, “It’s the most massive conspiracy of a national homicide made to look like a suicide I’ve ever seen.”

Hence the reason America needs her book (It’s nice to be needed, isn’t it?): “I do think it’s my most important book. … In this book, I am correcting lies you are being told right now that will affect the continued existence of the United States.”

It all turns back to Coulter, who alone can save America from demographic suicide!

Update: On her book tour, Coulter repeatedly erupts – “It’s madness!” – when addressing the current state of open borders. It is also madness to do as Coulter has done: 1) cite acts of Islamic terrorism in the United States at the hands of legal immigrants, 2) deny the existence of Islamic terrorists in the United States, and 3) oppose those seeking to vanquish Islamic terrorists in the United States.

Coulter’s book is principally about legal immigration. Her solution to those already here legally is to enact a moratorium on future immigration so that those already here can assimilate to the native American culture. But she decries the existence of immigrant enclaves (such as entire Somali communities in Minnesota) and the existence of atrocities committed by legal residents while simultaneously thwarting those who are opposed to those atrocities and trying to to stop the radicalization of those legal residents.

Quoting Coulter, it’s madness!

Update: Even after being apprised of her math error on Mexico, an unrepentant Coulter doubled down, asserting, “We’ve already taken in – at a minimum – one quarter of Mexico’s population.”[25]

Here, Coulter explicitly repeats her false claims of “taken in” and 25%.
