Coulter’s Colors of the Rainbow

In a fascinating interview with Scottie Nell Hughes, Coulter revealed her racial confusion and racist inclinations. She said, “No normal person thinks of themself as Hispanic. They think of themselves as ‘I’m Mexican,’ ‘I’m Cuban,’ ‘I’m Ecuadorian.’ [Hispanic] is an invention of the political parties.”

Really? Coulter continued:

“Trump transcended this. He’s appealing to ‘Hispanics’ [Coulter placed air quotes around Hispanics], blacks, Asians, Americans, white Americans.”

If Hispanics don’t think of themselves as Hispanic but of various nationalities, then why is that not true of blacks? Aren’t they Kenyan, or Jamaican, or Haitian, or Nigerian, or …. [fill in the blank]? Yet, Coulter doesn’t deny that they are black. (In fact, she also claims that America still owes blacks for slavery, even those who emigrated after emancipation.) So, why deny that Hispanics are “Hispanic?”

What about whites? Are whites, as Coulter implies, homogenous? Are there no cultural and linguistic differences between Swedes, Polacks, Britons, French, and Italians? Yet, when it suits her, Coulter emphasizes those differences, always in favor of English WASP culture. Moreover, Coulter actively courts “white” votes to the exclusion of non-white ones.

Does anyone say “I’m Asian?” No. They refer to their national origins, whether China, Korea, Japan, Nepal, or elsewhere. Would Coulter suggest “Asia” “is an invention of the political parties?” Hardly.

It’s funny. When Coulter listed peoples to whom Trump appeals, she said: “Hispanics, blacks, Asians, Americans, white Americans.” When she said “Americans,” she quickly corrected herself and qualified it as “white Americans,” almost as if she doesn’t regard non-whites as Americans, or, perhaps more accurately, to emphasize the group of Americans she values most: whites.

Whites are crucial for Coulter’s restoration of a WASP (i.e., white) America.

Apparently, “Hispanics” (don’t forget those air quotes), blacks, Asians and other non-whites aren’t real Americans to Coulter.

Trump, Coulter, and the KKK

Ann Coulter defended “conservative” racism in her column yesterday. Her main argument seems to be that the Left does it too, and, besides, theirs is worse!

Should Donald Trump denounce David Duke, the KKK, and white supremacists? Of course! But not in Ann’s world. Coulter just dismisses them as irrelevant in the 21st century.

Since Trump entered this presidential race, white supremacists have come out of the woodwork to support him and praise his message. They agree with the racial aspects of his platform. And this isn’t news? (Even Louis Farrakhan praises Trump!)

The very same thing happened when Coulter published her latest book, Adios, America! During her book tour, Coulter championed an identity politics given the David Duke seal of approval.[1]

Why do white supremacists praise both Trump and Coulter? Because these white supremacists agree with their racial politics and agenda!

Why do white supremacists agree with Ann Coulter’s book? Because a white supremacist wrote it!

Coulter wants protection against charges of racism by decrying those charges[2] even as she pursues a racist agenda[3] built on a racist paradigm.[4] Let’s not forget about the anti-Semitic component[5] of Coulter’s WASP worldview.

Yes! Every conservative and every Christian should denounce David Duke, the KKK, and white supremacists!

Why won’t Coulter?

Are Coulter’s ‘Facts’ Right?

Ann Coulter has been sacked by the Truth[1] more often than RG3 has been sacked by the Detroit Lions.

Coulter often does speak truth, but she all too often tells lies. Discerning between truth and lies can be problematic with Coulter. During her latest book tour, Coulter has told countless lies. Small lies. Big lies. Smug lies. Hurtful lies. Shameful lies.

Sacked

One tactic Coulter uses to present her propaganda[2] (to promote herself and her agenda) is that of speaking with conviction. She will forcefully and vehemently lie with the expectation that her seeming conviction will convince others of her falsehoods.[3]

Coulter v. Colmes

Before highlighting some of the many falsehoods from Coulter’s current book tour (so many lies, so little time), it would be instructive to consider an exchange with Alan Colmes:[4]

Coulter: “The truth about immigration is always the same; the lies are always different. I look at the studies. You know, you have to read down and figure out, where’s the lie here? Where’s the lie there? They lie in all different kinds of ways.”

Colmes: “So whenever I present data you don’t like, you just say it’s a lie.”

Coulter: “Exactly!

Colmes: “So every study is wrong except the ones you quote?”

Coulter: “Look! I show the data. You can look at it yourself.”

Whenever Coulter is confronted with facts she cannot refute, she will dismiss them or deny their veracity.

Coulter’s False “Facts” on Her Book Tour

Here are just a few of Coulter’s many prevarications:

ISIS poses no threat to the American homeland.[5] “I don’t even care about ISIS! … ISIS is not at our doorstep.”[6] And, “I have a little tip. If you don’t want to be killed by ISIS, don’t go to Syria.”[7]

ISIS: 0.[8] Dismissing the terrorist threat in America, Coulter concluded a column: “Now go back to worrying about ISIS.”[9]

America has taken in 25% of Mexico.[10] “America has already taken in one-fourth of Mexico’s entire population.”[11] And, “We’ve taken one quarter of Mexico’s population.”[12]

Civil rights[13] are only for blacks.[14] “The only time you should be able to sue for discrimination is if you are an African-American. That’s it! That’s it! I don’t want to hear about anybody else. You can hire whomever you want to. You can fire whomever you want to. … Civil rights are for blacks.”[15]

Diversity is white.[16] Ann Coulter’s America is exceedingly small and insular. Coulter crows, “It used to be more diverse, admittedly from white, Western European countries, mostly. But I consider, you know, the Scotch, the Irish, the English – I think that’s enough diversity. That really mixes it up for me.”[17]

America will be a WASP nation again.[18] Coulter explained (emphasis added): “It’s a monochromatic WASP country that other ethnicities have come to and for the first 400 years of its existence, (as a colony and then as a country) the ‘wildly diverse’ immigrants were other white western Europeans. That was the extent of the diversity.”[19]

And, “Send me a million people who want to come to America, and I will decide them all before breakfast. I can pretty much decide on looks; it would save a lot of money.”[20]

Coulter has never been accused of racism.[21] “One thing I have never been called, ah, is, is, is, is a racist. Um, anyone, anyone who reads my book – or, or Mugged – will see, um, that that would be a very difficult case to make.”[22]

All immigrants are bad.[23] “My only quibble with [Trump] is that, No. 1, it’s legal immigrants, too. And, No. 2, there are no good ones.”[24]

Pro-lifers are putzes[25] and sissies.[26] “Exactly. So sick of the anti-abortion machismo from right wing sissies.”[27]

And, “… their big thing is to keep talking about this abortion thing. Well, that’s great if it were 1977. I’d think you’re really brave and you’re doing a great thing. But I kind of think you’re just a putz imitating what was good forty years ago at this point.”[28]

Mitt Romney was better than Reagan.[29] “[Romney] did better than Reagan did. I think that’s pretty good.”[30] And “The best we ever had was Mitt Romney.”[31]

Donald Trump could win as a third-party candidate.[32] “[A third party candidacy] would be fantastic! Go, Trump, Go!”[33] And “I think he could be not only a nominee who could win but a third party candidate who could win.”

Hillary Clinton will be Democrat nominee.[34] “I promise you Jeb or Rubio are going to lead to a Hillary presidency.”[35] And, “You have to vote for Hillary over those two[36] [Bush and Rubio].”[37]

Nikki Haley is an ignorant immigrant:[38] “Well, I’m a student of American history. On the other hand, [Nikki Haley] is an immigrant and does not understand America’s history.”[39]

Ted Cruz is ineligible to be President:[40] “Ted Cruz gave a good answer on immigration. Too bad he’s not a natural born citizen!”[41]

Carly Fiorina is just a woman who can talk:[42] “I’ve turned against [Carly Fiorina] as of yesterday with the hot, hot hate of a thousand suns. … At first, I admit I was suspicious because I hate this, ‘Oh, a woman can talk, oh, isn’t that’s great?’”[43]

Ann Coulter is better that Donald Trump.[44] “Trump’s a piker compared to moi.”[45]

Coulter is Not Conservatism’s Best

Delusions of grandeur aside, Coulter cannot be trusted because she thinks too highly of herself and she regards her lies as superior to the truth that we all need to make informed decisions.

RG3 boasted: “I feel like I’m the best quarterback in the league, and I have to go out and show that … There’s guys in this league that have done way more than me. But I still view myself as the best because that’s what I work toward every single day.”

Throughout her book tour,[46] Coulter has boasted about her superiority,[47] praising herself[48] and her book.[49]

Coulter is sacked by truth on a weekly, if not almost daily, basis. Until Coulter speaks the truth and sticks with the truth, Conservatives should not stick with Coulter.[50]

Honest Ann? Honestly?

Ann Coulter seems intent upon continually out-Coultering herself. Yesterday, she claimed: “If you crave association with honest people, you’ll love Ann Coulter!”[1]

When it comes to truth, Coulter is frequently truth-deprived. Coulter has a trust deficit because she has a truth deficit. (Not unlike Hillary Clinton.)[2]

Honest

Let’s consider Ann’s record over just the past nine weeks, during her current book tour.

Coulter has lied about …

Even after her claims have been debunked, Coulter repeats them – and even amplifies to them.

For quite some time, Coulter has been living in an alternative universe[17] where she envisions and ascribes various and sundry superlatives to herself[18] (best Christian, conservative, libertarian, pro-lifer, etc.).

Why is Coulter not trusted? It all has to do with Coulter’s integrity and veracity,[19] or lack thereof.

To be trusted, one must be trustworthy. Coulter is not.

Adios, Ann: Coulter’s WASP Fantasy

Ann Coulter’s historical revisionism now extends to redefining what it means to be an American. Using a barrage of statistics (some real, some fabricated),[1] coupled with heart-wrenching anecdotal evidence, fanciful narrative, and a passionate zeal for her nativist perspective, Coulter is rewriting our past with an intent to change our future.

(Remember Coulter’s own fraudulent biographical information[2] and her chameleon-like self-identity[3]?)

Not Really Americans

Recently, Coulter has defamed whole groups of people, calling them “phony” – from the Tea Party[4] to Christian missionaries.[5] She has a long history of making such false accusations. Now, Coulter is targeting yet another group – immigrants – and doing so with a redefinition of (and conflation of) terms, all to advance her own agenda.

Coulter’s jaundiced view of American citizenship was on full display in her column,[6] posted yesterday, in which she again dismisses the terrorist threat in America[7] and confuses the immigration issue by conflating various groups as if they were identical.

Coulter wrote (emphasis added): “And, once again, the weekend came and went without anyone in America being killed by ISIS, but a lot of people being killed by immigrants – legal, illegal, second generation and anchor babies.”

Further on, Coulter added, “Some of these crimes were committed by legal residents – even ‘citizens.’”

In addressing crime by immigrants, Coulter lumps everyone in together: immigrants (illegal, legal, second generation, anchor babies) and “citizens” (in air quotes, so that we might know she regards them as not really citizens).

Does Coulter regard the current governor of South Carolina as an air-quote citizen? Seemingly. Coulter actually called the native-born governor an ignorant immigrant.

Coulter smeared[8] Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC) – an American citizen – for having immigrant parents, suggesting she was somehow less than a real American. Why? Because this successful governor – who is a native South Carolinian to boot – was from the wrong race! Haley’s family hails from India, not England.

Remember, Coulter calls many native-born Americans “immigrants,” not citizens.

The very nature of citizenship eludes many liberals and some conservatives, particularly Coulter. As noted by the Ashbrook Center (emphasis added):

“But in fact, of course, only Americans are American citizens. Our revolution began with a universal claim about human equality, but it culminated necessarily in the establishment of a particular nation. ‘We the People of the United States’ are distinct from the other peoples of the world not by birth, race, or religion, but by the deliberate act of establishing ourselves as a different people. By the act of consent, the people of the United States committed themselves to each other, as distinct from all the others who live outside the bond if citizenship.”[9]

An idea – liberty and equality – gave birth to America.

America – An Idea or a Race?

In her book and on her tour, Coulter dismisses the notion that America is an “idea” and claims it is the creation and culmination of an Anglicized white race. She wrote: “America is not a ‘nation of immigrants,’ it is not an ‘idea,’ it was never ‘diverse,’ and ‘diversity’ is a catastrophe.”

Further, “Without the white settlers, what is known as ‘America’ would still be an unnamed continent full of migratory tribes chasing the rear end of a buffalo every time their stomachs growled.”[10]

(What? No one but white settlers were capable of settling America?)

As Coulter put it, “The first people here, back in the 1600s, were not immigrants. They were settlers. They came to a continent that had no country. They created this country. The Dutch – mostly the British – created America.”[11]

Yes, Coulter contends that America’s greatness stems from having the correct racial composition (i.e., white, specifically British) and that her decline is a result of the wrong racial composition (i.e., non-white, non-European). If that were really true, Britannia would still rule the waves.

Coulter asserts (emphasis added): “Only white Anglo-Saxons always seem to be in the position for apologizing for being white Anglo-Saxons. Well, no: You can come in and you can be part of what is a white Anglo-Saxon-American culture, which is better than the culture that it was created from.”[12]

Coulter insists, “American culture is WASP culture.” But for Coulter, the most important component of that acronym is the beginning: White. Coulter’s almost inalterable emphasis is on race.

Coulter explained (emphasis added): “It’s a monochromatic WASP country that other ethnicities have come to and for the first 400 years of its existence, (as a colony and then as a country) the ‘wildly diverse’ immigrants were other white western Europeans. That was the extent of the diversity.”

White western Europeans.

Yes, white western Europeans created America – an America based on an idea, premised on a proposition, with the purpose of being a shining city on a hill and the last, best hope of mankind.

As Kevin D. Williamson put it, “Ultimately, we Americans are not a blood; we are a creed.”

But for Coulter, American culture remains white culture.

The Idea of America

Coulter dismisses the notion that America is an idea when, in fact, America was birthed by an idea enshrined in the Declaration of Independence. As Dana Perino recently put it, “We have our core identity and that is our independence.”[13]

The idea – freedom – is at the heart of the American Dream. That idea encompasses the biblical understanding that “all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights.”

Our forefathers – whether genetically or ideologically – took a virgin continent to create a New World. Not like Hitler’s Fatherland or Stalin’s Mother Russia. Theirs was not a blood and soil philosophy, but one which built upon the collected wisdom of Western Civilization, the principles and precepts of the Bible, and the surety of God’s Providence.

The Framers of our Constitution and Founders of our Republic created a nation and a government which maximized political, economic, and religious liberty to an extent never before seen.

America’s Founders believed in the idea of liberty and equality – not race! Abraham Lincoln eloquently spoke of the “proposition that all men are created equal.” A proposition is an  idea or an ideal, not a race!

Michael Gerson notes, “Lincoln not only rejected slavery, he rejected relativism – the belief that moral standards change from culture to culture, or shift with public opinion. And he rooted his moral beliefs in two great traditions: the Enlightenment views of the Founders, and the teachings of religion.”[14]

WASP = White Anglo-Saxon Protestant

Coulter speaks of WASP culture in almost exclusively racial terms, emphasizing the first word and giving lip service to the last.

Myron Magnet notes “The Plymouth Pilgrims were only the first of many who came to the New World to escape religious persecution. … because they were accustomed to reading the Bible and feeling free to judge its meaning for themselves – to believing, that is, that they had a direct relation to God and his word independent of any worldly institution or authority – they also brought a deeply rooted culture of individualism and personal responsibility. For them, the individual and his conscience were of preeminent importance.”

Moreover, religious revivals (called “Great Awakenings”) animated the public square and reconstituted America. Kevin D. Williamson observed, “The American proposition is a theological proposition: ‘that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights.’”

But Coulter gives short shrift to the spiritual (Christian) origins of America.[15]

Gerson emphasizes the importance Christianity had in America’s founding and maturation. Gerson explains, “The First Great Awakening, led by George Whitfield in the 1730s, promoted the doctrines of individual conscience and liberty that added momentum to the American Revolution, sending many traditional conservatives fleeing for Canada.”[16]

Gerson adds, “The Second Great Awakening, which flamed a century later, created the moral constituency for abolition, and the political constituency for Lincoln’s election.”[17]

Gerson continues, “The Third Great Awakening, at the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth, led to a Social Gospel that confronted the excesses of the industrial revolution with soup kitchens, homes for unwed mothers, and progressive laws.”[18]

Coulter’s Immigration Plan is Race-Based

As with everything she cares about, Coulter wants to be in charge. She foisted Romney on the nation in 2012 and wants to do so again.[19] She insists that only governors or senators should be nominated.[20] She wants to decide everything. So, too, with immigration.

Coulter has a very narrow, unidimensional perspective, shallow and superficial – literally skin deep. Don’t take my word for it. Consider Coulter’s very own criteria for determining whom to let into America.

Coulter’s plan is distinctly racial: “I want to be 100% in charge of all of our immigration. I can decide before breakfast every morning. I just need a picture, age, country of origin – that’s about it.”[21]

Coulter adds, “I’m a looksist and I like ‘em tall. Those are the two primary factors. And, obviously, English-speaking.” Moreover, her diversity would extend to, well, “I want more British and Dutch, but I would say a lot more British and less Dutch.”

And, if you don’t think race is Coulter’s primary criterion,[22] consider these words: “Send me a million people who want to come to America, and I will decide them all before breakfast. I can pretty much decide on looks; it would save a lot of money.”[23]

Dennis Prager offered insight into Ronald Reagan’s vision of America – a vision diametrically opposed to that of Ann Coulter. Prager wrote:

“Matthew’s Gospel speaks of a city on a hill, an image that captured the imagination of Ronald Reagan: ‘I’ve spoken of the shining city all my political life, but I don’t know if I ever quite communicated what I saw when I said it. But in my mind it was a tall proud city built on rocks stronger than oceans, wind-swept, God-blessed, and teeming with people of all kinds living in harmony and peace, a city with free ports that hummed with commerce and creativity. And if there had to be city walls, the walls had doors and the doors were open to anyone with the will and the heart to get here.’”

Quite a different outlook from that of Coulter.

Coulter Declares Herself Self-Evidently Not a Racist

A befuddled Ann Coulter recently defended herself with a laughable claim:

“Just out of historical accuracy, of the many, many, many hate campaigns waged against me – ah, accusing me, you know, of being anti-woman, anti-widow, anti-Muslim, anti-Semitic, anti-gay – one thing I have never been called, ah, is, is, is, is a racist. Um, anyone, anyone who reads my book – or, or Mugged – will see, um, that that would be a very difficult case to make.”[24]

Huh? Coulter’s entire immigration agenda is race-based[25] – and people are calling her on it. On the one hand, she decries, “Identity politics isn’t our game. It never works. … knock off the identity politics.”[26] But then, in the same breath, she asserts, “Your base is white people, Republicans!”[27]

What is Coulter’s agenda? In her words, “The Ann Coulter Plan: The way to win is to drive up the white vote.”[28] Asked why candidates are not advocating the Ann Coulter Plan: “A combination of stupidity and cowardice.”

Coulter has never before been called a racist?

In 2001, Coulter spoke at her alma mater, Cornell University, and was confronted with those very accusations. According to David Horowitz, “Even before her arrival, campus Democrats had already sent out a flyer calling on students to protest Coulter’s talk, while another flyer from the more ardent left aggressively linked her with Adolf Hitler and David Duke.” Those accusations of racism were neither the first nor the last levied against Coulter.

Last year, Coulter was embroiled in numerous controversies of her own making. One revolved around her nativist denunciation of foreigners vis-à-vis soccer.[29] Another centered on her defamation of Christian missionaries.[30] Both incorporated racist views which Coulter again reaffirmed just this year.

The Way of the WASP

Coulter offers Americans a bait-and-switch in which she champions an idyllic WASP culture which must be restored for America to once again flourish but offers instead a white supremacist paradigm[31] which is antithetical to the very culture she champions.

America’s settlers and Founding Fathers created a new American culture distinct from, though similar to, Anglo-Saxon culture. People of all races and cultures have assimilated to – and enhanced – that foundational culture.

Richard Brookhiser, author of The Way of the WASP (1990), has written extensively about WASP culture, making many salient points which Coulter’s antics only serve to obscure. Brookhiser said,

“I think WASP values can go in a number of different political directions. Over time, there have been WASPs who were isolationists and WASPs who were imperialists. There have been WASPs who were social Darwinists, free marketeers of the most rigorous sort, and there were WASPs who were prairie socialists. WASP ideals can form different varieties of society. However, they’re all within certain limits. There are certain types of society you’re not going to get in a WASP country.”

That variety is anathema to Coulter, whose monochromatic outlook corresponds with her, in Michael Isikoff’s words, “starkly one-dimensional worldview.”

Reviewing Brookhiser’s book, Michael Novak commented on WASP characteristics totally neglected by Coulter. He writes:

“In the most interesting chapter of his book, Brookhiser lists six ‘traits’ that define the essential WASP character: conscience, industry, success, civic-mindedness, use [practicality], anti-sensuality. … More than many other cultures, WASP culture insists on a certain inner self-government; it construes freedom to mean doing not what one wishes but what one ought; it insists upon unbroken attention to the bite of guilt.”

None of these traits are racial. None of these characteristics are inherited. America’s Founding Fathers understood this. They understood that liberty, morality, virtue, godliness and the like all transcend race and ethnicity. Similarly, they grasped that the gospel – which imbued the life of colonial and early America – transcends all cultures and can impact the life of any person anywhere. They understood these things to the marrow of their bones.

Why doesn’t Coulter? (The answer may surprise you!)

(Why would Coulter lie about such basic historical facts, distort the nature of the American identity, and promote such a racialist perspective and agenda – all the while believing herself to be the opposite of a racist? You will find the truth to be absolutely astonishing! Stay tuned!)

Adios, Ann: Coulter Trashes Nikki Haley

In her zeal to combat America’s existential immigration crisis, Ann Coulter denounces all immigrants as culturally (and genetically[1]) inferior[2] to Americans.[3] Coulter’s views regarding Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC) are emblematic of her worldview.

When asked about the Confederate flag controversy, Coulter boasted, “Well, I’m a student of American history.”[4] She continued, “On the other hand, [Nikki Haley] is an immigrant and does not understand America’s history.”

Yes, Coulter called Nikki Haley an ignorant immigrant! In reality, Haley is a native South Carolinian well-versed in its history.

According to Coulter’s logic, Nikki Haley had to be ignorant because she was an immigrant and she had to be an immigrant because of her ethnicity.[5]

Coulter’s false claim perfectly fits into her dehumanizing, anti-immigrant narrative – all to sell a book and an agenda.[6] Coulter is captured by her own racial,[7] xenophobic[8] paradigm.

Coulter wields the word “immigrant” like an epithet.

Right Scoop is chagrined: “Thanks a lot, Ann Coulter, you’ve sunk to Joe Biden level stupidity.”

Coulter Denigrates Gov. Nikki Haley

In a recent tweet, Coulter compared Haley to terrorists!

In her tweet, Coulter claimed that Haley “constantly brags” about being a second-generation immigrant. (In other words, Haley’s bio says she’s a native South Carolinian with immigrant parents.) But then, Coulter compares Haley to jihadist Nidal Hasan (Ft. Hood massacre) and jihadist Anwar al-Awlaki (influential imam) as well as infamous tabloid queen Octomon, snidely noting, “we R getting the best ppl!”

Why does Coulter denigrate and despise Haley, who is a successful and popular governor of a major state? Is it because Haley is not of white Anglo-Saxon heritage? Is it because, in her eyes, Haley is a foreigner who somehow became a governor but Coulter couldn’t even find a party to support her run for Congress in Connecticut?

Why does Coulter attack Haley? Coulter calls first-generation Americans (citizens) second-generation immigrants to fudge her data, flesh out her case, and blur the concept of American-ness. Haley’s success contradicts Coulter’s stereotype of legal immigrants and threatens her agenda.

Coulter’s attacks upon Gov. Haley are not an aberration but, rather, manifestations of how Coulter thinks and feels – about herself and others. Coulter regards herself as extraordinary, as the measure – the gold standard – of patriotism,[9] of conservatism,[10] of Christianity.[11]

In her exasperation with Haley, we see the coalescence of elitism, classism, racism, nativism, and narcissism – all intertwined into the being we now know as Ann Coulter.

Coulter has developed an immeasurable sense of superiority toward others,[12] constantly contending that she knows best, and, as a consequence, condemns Christian missionaries as fake Christians,[13] was incensed at not being invited to speak at CPAC,[14] denies that ISIS is in America,[15] and insists Romney should be the 2016 GOP nominee.[16]

It wasn’t that long ago when Coulter compared Hillary Clinton to Josef Mengele![17] Coulter has also referred to Marco Rubio as “the Jack Kevorkian of the Republican Party.”[18]

Ace of Spades Speaks Out

Ace of Spades made some salient observations on these points. He wrote:

“But I would still have to reject the Essentialist nature of that argument – the implication that only ‘true Americans,’ born here, made of this blood and this soil, can understand America.”

“America is not chiefly about a place. Our physical location is happenstance. It is not about blood or soil. It is not about race. America is an idea – and ideal.”

[But Coulter makes it entirely about raceWhite Anglo-Saxon Protestants – with the emphasis on white.[19]

He continues:

“But if she’s now going down the road of asserting that an ‘immigrant’ (who is not an immigrant) really can’t understand America like the native-born can (even though many native-born Americans seem to want to kick American tradition to the cub and go full-on decadent European socialism), then I’ll have to conclude that she has become more than merely unfashionable, but instead simply … not worth reading.”

“That is off-base. That’s just Nativist and Essentialist – only the native-born are truly American; only those born with the essence of America in their blood can understand America.”

“And frankly, that sounds a lot like the Tribal Identity Politics that I don’t like in the newer classes of immigrants.”

Defending Coulter

Peter Brimelow penned a defense of Coulter, writing, “Ann Coulter misspoke trivially.” Coulter’s tweet regarding her words belies Brimelow’s defense. (Coulter does not misspeak. She says what she wants to say exactly the way she wants to say it.)

Far too many people try to justify Coulter’s misdeeds. Regarding Nikki Haley, Coulter’s words were extremely clear and unhesitatingly spoken.

In a Facebook dialogue, Coulter defenders came to her rescue. Here is an abbreviated version:

Steve Mason: I sure can see the connection between persecuting the Rebel flag and Third World, Turd World immigration. Are we Immigration Patriots the only ones?

John Rutowicz: Nimrata Nikki Randhawa Haley

Daniel Borchers: You can try to justify Coulter’s extremely clear and unhesitatingly spoken words, but Coulter’s false claim perfectly fits into her narrative of criticizing unworthy immigrants – all to sell a book and an agenda.

John Rutowicz: And you think this will make us dislike Ann Coulter?

Daniel Borchers: It’s not about like or dislike. It’s about truth and its opposite. Are you arguing that Coulter is right when she’s wrong? Haley is an American, born in America. Not an immigrant.

John Rutowicz: Americans are racially European, and religiously Christian.

Daniel Borchers: Where do blacks fit?

John Rutowicz: In Israel.

Thomas Meehan: I wouldn’t wish Israel on them. Sub Saharan Africa would be nice though.

[These people represent Coulter’s audience!]

Conservatives should have long ago abandoned Coulter as their spokesman. Coulter has proven herself to be, time and time again, a self-promoter interested in what is best for her [20] – not for conservatives and not for the country.

Update: Following the State of the Union address in 2016, Coulter tweeted that Trump should deport Nikki Haley!

Adios, Ann: Coulter’s Blood Politics

Coulter lied about her credentials[1] and she lied about ISIS and Mexican immigration.[2] Now, Coulter promotes blood politics while decrying blood politics.

Every time Coulter has been interviewed about her new book on Fox News, the hosts have begun by asking her whether she expects to be called a racist. Invariably, the answer is in the affirmative, with Coulter claiming that 1) the Left is afraid to debate her and 2) spurious charges of racism is their only recourse to the truth she proclaims.

For instance, on Hannity (6/1/15), Hannity introduced the topic: “You will, you know you will be called racist for this.” Coulter replied, “As I say, that’s the only argument they have. They prefer not to debate me at all, but if they have to, they’ll call me that.”

Similarly, on Kelly File, Coulter responded, “But they won’t say it to my face because few are brave enough to interview me.”[3]

Invariably, the hosts line of questioning is designed to inoculate Coulter from such charges and, also invariably, the hosts never actually consider the validity of the question.

Overlooked are the many and varied reasons so many people suspect she is racist. Coulter has been hostile to countries across the globe[4] and vilified overseas Christian missionaries.[5] She has demeaned seemingly every racial group imaginable[6] and openly displayed her prejudices.[7]

It is a small wonder that some people regard Coulter as racist.

Blood Politics

Coulter is correct in identifying major cultural transformations in America due, in large measure, to unbridled immigration and the Left’s refusal to pursue a proper integration into the existing American culture. She is also conversant with the Left’s obsession with identity politics and cautions conservatives from adopting their positions.

An American conservative of Cuban descent told Coulter that he was proud to have two GOP candidates of his blood in the presidential race. Coulter’s response – initially – appeared exemplary, mildly rebuking this young conservative:

“This blood thing – not really an American Anglo-Saxon tradition. This is a problem, and that’s why the Democrats are insistent upon dumping all of these very different cultures on America, because they can get people to vote on the basis of blood. That is not how Anglo-Saxons vote. Not at all.”[8]

Liberalism’s penchant for voting (and judging) on the basis of race, gender, or class is a Marxist, not an American, notion.[9]

Coulter continued: “No, and we have, we have Third Worlders voting in tribal ways.”

So far, so good. Coulter first stated the standard: the American Anglo-Saxon tradition. She then identified the problem: identity politics.

But then Coulter launched into her own version of identity politics, saying: “If we had gotten 71% of the Hispanic vote, Mitt Romney still would have lost. If he’d gotten about five percent more of the white vote, he would have won.”

Having condemned tribal voting as un-American, and then complained about the results of tribal voting in the last presidential election, Coulter next urged Republicans to vote tribally:

“So Republicans better wake up and for the first time – in, oh, I don’t know, my lifetime – appeal to white Americans for votes.”

On the Laura Ingraham Show, Coulter said, “Any immigrant to this country is going to make America less free, more statist, and more corrupt, unless they are from one of the half dozen northern, Western European, Protestant nations.”[10]

For all Coulter’s stuff and nonsense about her book, her viewpoint, and her mission being about cultural preservation, they are not. Coulter is not seeking to preserve an American culture but a white culture. She couches it in other terms – Anglo-Saxon, British, Western European, etc. – but, at heart, she means white.

From her book: “Historically, when Republicans ignore white voters, they lose.”[11]

White!

Race. Not culture.

White.

Are there not voters who are black, Asian, and Hispanic who believe in Rev. King’s colorblind vision of the world,[12] who believe in a constitutional and republican form of government, and who cherish the values of America’s Founding Fathers?[13] I would argue “Yes.” Coulter apparently believes otherwise.

Again, from her book, “By unapologetically opposing the transformation of America into a Third World country, the GOP could sweep the white vote – once white people recovered from the shock of any candidates asking for their vote.”[14]

No! Don’t appeal to whites! Appeal to Americans!

Coulter continues: “Any party incapable of winning the vote of white men ought to hang its head in shame.”[15] I would argue that blacks should overwhelmingly support conservatives given the abject failures of liberal policies over the last fifty years.[16] But Coulter focus is on whites.

Does Coulter really believe this stuff? Only the white man could have tamed the North American continent? She thinks so!

“Without the white settlers, what is known as ‘America’ would still be an unnamed continent full of migratory tribes chasing the rear end of a buffalo every time their stomachs growled.”[17]

No one else – except white men from western Europe – could possibly colonize and civilize America? Even today?

Affirmative Action and Racism

Surprisingly, Coulter reiterates already debunked claims from several years ago, namely that civil rights are an exclusively black thing.

In her book, Coulter claims, “The entire edifice of civil rights and discrimination law was meant of address the black experience in America, not to reward any loser with resentments.”[18]

To a question from the audience, Coulter shouts, “The answer is: you’re not black, so drop the racism crap.”[19]

Coulter clearly does not understand what constitutes racism. Coulter actually uses race as a criterion for racism when, in fact, anyone from any race can be guilty of – or a victim of – racism.

But Coulter’s position is absolutely astonishing in that she hails conservative author and intellectual Thomas Sowell as “the greatest economist” and she claims to have read most of his books. If her claim is true, then she must modify her reading habits to concentrate on absorbing what she reads. Sowell repeatedly condemns thinking such as that displayed by Coulter.

I am reminded of her similar nonsense when she was on tour for Mugged, claiming that civil rights are only for blacks.[20]

Although she is a self-described constitutional attorney who worked as a litigator for the Center for Individual Rights and has been the Legal Editor and the Legal Affairs Correspondent for Human Events since the mid-1990s, on the eve of her book tour for Mugged, Coulter was surprisingly inarticulate and in-artful when discussing civil rights, “one of the most important points of [her] book.”[21]

Indeed, her words were astonishing! Coulter claimed, “civil rights are for blacks.” Her reasoning? “We owe black people something, we have the legacy of slavery.” In contrast, “We don’t owe the homeless. We don’t owe feminists. We don’t owe women who are desirous of having abortions, or gays who want to get married to one another.”

On her Adios, America! tour, Coulter insisted: “The only time you should be able to sue for discrimination is if you are an African-American. That’s it! That’s it! I don’t want to hear about anybody else. You can hire whomever you want to. You can fire whomever you want to. … Civil rights are for blacks.”[22]

Again, “And I agree with that, we are not allowed to insult black people. Blacks, African-Americans can boss us around.”[23] What? Ask Thomas Sowell or Clarence Thomas if they agree. (Hint: They do not.)

As noted by Cornell Law School: “Discrimination based on ‘race, color, religion, or national origin’ in public establishments that have a connection to interstate commerce or are supported by the state is prohibited.” Civil rights are individual, not collective, and pertain to all citizens.

Coulter to this day still contends that affirmative action remains intact “to make up for the legacy of discrimination and of slavery,”[24] claiming, “Their experience has been stolen by people who have never set foot in this country.”

But this is nonsense.[25] America has already paid its slavery debt – many times over. The Civil War (which wiped out any economic boom from slavery) and LBJ’s Great Society/War on Poverty are but two examples.[26]

Coulter herself has known better for the better part of two decades. In the course of our personal and professional correspondence (which lasted well over a year), Ann sent me precisely one press release, suggesting its importance to her.

While working for the Center for Individual Rights in 1997, Coulter forwarded me a press release on a CIR lawsuit to end racial preferences by the University of Michigan. (Coulter was hired by CIR expressly because she had graduated from U of M.)

At that time, Coulter considered racial preferences (i.e., affirmative action) “unconstitutional.” That press release stated, “The lawsuit seeks to terminate use of race-based admission preferences.”

“According to University documents, minority and non-minority students with identical credentials are treated differently solely on the basis of their race. In some cases, minorities are automatically admitted whereas non-minority applicants with identical SAT scores and grades are automatically rejected.”

“The lawsuit contends that the University’s racial preferences violate the 14th Amendment’s Equal Protection clause and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.”

Those students who were discriminated against were white.

Still, in many ways, Coulter emulates the Left in racial thought.
