Coulter is effectively a White House spokesperson parroting White House talking points and propagandistic narratives.
As the chaos in Kabul was unfolding, Coulter explicitly stated, “I DON’T CARE.” Later, Coulter lauded Biden for what was transpiring in Kabul. The death of 13 Americans elicited not one word of outrage or sympathy from Coulter. When Biden abandoned hundreds of Americans and perhaps thousands of Afghan allies to the whims of the Taliban, Coulter again praised Biden.
Coulter explicitly expressed apathy about genuine reports of Afghan Christians facing a “reign of terror.” I guess that Coulter is an “extraordinarily good Christian” like Biden’s retreat was an “extraordinary success.”
In the Real World
Rudyard Kipling observed, “Nothing is ever settled unless it is settled right.” THIS was not settled right and will ensure that terrorism is ascendant for a long time to come.
Combat veteran Pete Hegseth warned,
“What we’ve done is legitimize a terrorist state and given them the best equipment in the world.”
Rep. John Kennedy (R-LA) called Biden’s disastrous defeat in Kabul,
“It was the biggest terrorist victory since 9/11.”
CNN’s Clarissa Ward asked,
“If this isn’t failure, what does failure look like?”
But this time, the forces of Darkness – not Liberty – are prevailing.
Who will everbelieve us, trust us, or fear us again? Can the United States be victorious against tyranny and terrorism, or has Biden's blunder doomed our future?
One thing’s for sure: Ann Coulter doesn’t care.
For greater insight into Ann Coulter’s worldview and thought processes see Case Study: From Jingoist to Pacifist in Joker: Ann Coulter Unplugged at https://bit.ly/2TttHtF.
Instead of saying, “Let them eat cake,” polemicist Ann Coulter has effectively said, “Let them be killed, tortured, and raped.”
The fall of Kabul over the weekend is obscenely worse than the fall of Saigon in 1975, yet Coulter lauds Biden’s botched pullout from Afghanistan and berates Trump for not doing the same.
Does the horrific chaos not intrude upon Coulter’s conscience or touch her heart?
What transpired over the weekend is grotesque! And the worst is yet to come.
But, according to Baghdad Babs, “everything is going swimmingly in Afghanistan.”
“Once Osama was killed, the American people wanted us out. President Obama wanted us out. Trump promised to get us out … But generals (the WORST) and military contractors wanted us to stay forever, so we did.” 8/15/21
Coulter had to attack Trump, not realizing the utter catastrophic nature of Biden’s debacle.
Tens of thousands of AMERICANS are trapped in Afghanistan. Hundreds of ISIS terrorists have been released from prison. The Taliban has not only seized the nation, but taken our Blackhawk helicopters and sophisticated American weaponry.
And they are chanting, “Death to America.”
But Coulter feels compelled to celebrate as she feels safe in her isolationist cocoon.
Coulter also tweeted:
“We didn’t lose! We won the war in about 3 weeks, hung around for another decade to get Osama, and then stayed for another 10 years FOR NO NATIONAL SECURITY PURPOSE WHATSOEVER. (But military contractors got rich and generals got more ribbons!)” 8/15/21
Here’s one very pertinent response highlighting Coulter’s failure to grasp foreign policy and its implications for America First:
“In 20 years we had few terrorist attacks on our turf. And zero under Trump once he obliterated ISIS. Now you’re gonna have China and Russia supporting the Taliban. But I’m sure this can only be good for us, especially now that we have a open border.”
A small American troop presence in Afghanistan kept America safer.
Another respondent made this point:
“The usual Ann Coulter schtick: maintaining comedic effect at the expense of reflective thought. This President Trump-hater has lost the entire point of her boy, Joe Biden’s, disgrace in Afghanistan. “America risks being seen as harmless as an enemy, and treacherous as a friend.”
Exactly right! Trump kept America safe and even brokered numerous Middle East peace deals, which Coulter despised. Why? Did she hate the name: The Abraham Accords? Trump was a peace and prosperity president. Biden is a chaos president, and Coulter prefers Biden!
Quadrupling down, Coulter tweeted:
“How about: Thank you, President Biden for fulfilling one of Trump’s many broken promises by FINALLY ending the pointless war in Afghanistan.” 8/15/21
This was a humiliating travesty for America, a strategic blunder, and will be a moral stain on America for generations. Who will trust us now?
In response to Sen. Tim Cotton’s call to “destroy every Taliban fighter” near Kabul (perfectly feasible since they were all together in one location), Coulter riposted:
“Why not “every bad person in the whole wide world”?” 8/16/21
Making light of the chaos and dramatically-amplified threat to America, Coulter asserted that Tropical Storm Fred is more important:
“This is of far more importance than anything happening in Afghanistan.” 8/16/21
The Taliban NOW is more dangerous than they were THEN! They have routed America and have weaponry beyond what they could have ever imagined. Afghanistan will become a magnet for every jihadist who wants to destroy America and Western Civilization!
Coulter also tweeted:
“Every minute we were in Afghanistan after killing Osama bin Laden in 2011 was a betrayal of America.” 8/16/21
One person stated the obvious:
“We’re still in Japan and Germany 75 years later.”
We also still have troops in South Korea and other strategic places around the world – all with good results.
Now, the terrorists have a place to call home as they make their plans to attack us here in America. Brilliant, Ann.
But reality still escapes Coulter’s notice. She tweeted:
“The only thing I want to hear the president address is the ongoing crisis at our border, Covid pouring in and the unprecedented murder rampage in America. The idea that Americans on on tenterhooks about “WHITHER AFGHANISTAN” is absurd.” 8/16/21
Ann loves using the word “tenterhooks” when she is upset.
Has Coulter forgotten? There are still thousands of Americans in danger in Afghanistan. Yes, of course we should care. Feckless Biden warns them to exercise caution; Trump would be doing something constructive.
Coulter, again, sidestepped the historic catastrophe still unfolding in Afghanistan by attacking Republicans for wanting to launch an investigation into this colossal blunder of epic proportions. Coulter tweeted:
“How about an investigation of his border strategy? (There’s something mentally wrong with elected Republicans.)” 8/16/21
For Coulter, the only thing that matters is the border and immigration. Isn’t it funny, Trump came up with many great solutions (which Biden undid), yet Coulter keeps attacking Trump and not Biden.
Coulter is aghast that Trump would seek to keep America’s commitment to America-loving Afghan interpreters who faced death to help America. Coulter tweeted:
“Wow. Will THIS finally wake up the few remaining Trump loyalists? Does he have to fly them here himself? Send care packages to the border?” 8/17/21
“He abandoned the airbase, had no contingency plan to get Americans out, ignored intelligence agencies, prevented contractors from helping the Afghan airforce, and cut off the Afghan military from intelligence or support.”
Exhibiting total ignorance of the terror threat posed by Taliban and ISIS, Coulter absurdly tweeted:
“They’re happy the way things are. Why can’t we leave them alone? 99% of Afghans support sharia as official law.” 8/18/21
Of course, with armed Taliban leaders posing the question, the people replied logically, though not necessarily accurately.
For over a decade, Coulter has dismissed terrorist threats (focusing exclusively on immigration). Coulter asked, “Why can’t we leave them alone?” Because they won’t leave us alone!
Remember, they continue to chant, “Death to America!”
Nevertheless, Coulter remains utterly obsessed with Trump, tweeting:
“It’s hilarious how Trump has aggressively turned against all the issues that got him elected president.” 8/18/21
“President Biden ended the war in Afghanistan earlier this week, fulfilling the broken promises of the last three presidents, whereupon both the liberal and conservative media rose up as one to shout: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!“
Sorry, Ann, but Biden did not “end” the war. He capitulated. The enemy is still at war with us! And, now, they are better armed!
“Now Biden has done it. It’s our country’s good fortune that our president is too senile to be outmaneuvered by the generals as Bush, Obama and Trump were.”
Who is senile: Biden or Coulter?
“At this rate, maybe he’ll build the wall.”
Magical thinking does not work, Ann.
“On Monday, Biden gave the best presidential address in recent memory — a full-throated, America-First statement of our interests. ‘I want to remind everyone,’ he began, ‘how we got here and what America’s interests are in Afghanistan.'”
In her diatribe against Trump and all those who condemn the chaos sparked by Biden’s reckless and self-serving action, Coulter completely ignores that very real chaos which will continue, dismisses the plight of Afghan interpreters (and Christians), and has not a single word to say about the multitude of AMERICANS trapped in Afghanistan.
How can you be America First if you willingly jeopardize the lives of American citizens?
To fully understand the evolution of Coulter’s views, see Case Study: From Jingoist to Pacifist in Joker: Ann Coulter Unplugged at https://tinyurl.com/yx2lhcst.
Recently, Ann Coulter celebrated her 58th birthday. Over the years, I have been very critical of Ann, and rightly so, but here I want to acknowledge her strengths and offer you a sampling of the best of her commentary.
Many have remarked upon Ann’s wit and charm (neither of which are necessarily indicators of morality in and of themselves). She is telegenic and knows how to court her audiences in person and on-air.
Ann has written 13 books (of varying quality), published close to 2,000 columns, given tens of thousands of interviews, and was once a favorite (and increasingly controversial) public speaker.
Following are selections from some of Ann’s best columns for your enjoyment and edification.
October 2014 – Ebola Crisis
Ann’s Ebola column was priceless. Factual, well-reasoned, incisive, witty, non-polemical. (I wouldn’t change a word.)
Ann also wrote a literary gem which I would like to share with you.
Entitled “Your ‘to do’ list to save America,” Ann addressed the upcoming elections with insight, wit, and vigor. I thoroughly enjoyed her literary style (while disagreeing with a few of her points). It was well written and engaging, with a good overall structure, and it adroitly expressed her intended message with flair. Forceful, yet restrained.
Ann opened with the need to “swing the Senate to Republican control,” then, in her second paragraph, wrote my favorite sentence in this column:
“Turn that into a mnemonic, sew it on needlepoint pillows, include it in your wedding vows, right-wingers.” Beautiful imagery, quaint, to the point, with a cascading effect which lends a subtle sense of mounting urgency.
March 2017 – Illegals Rape Children
In perhaps her best column of 2017, Ann exquisitely expressed the dangers of political correctness, identity politics, and the negative impact of open borders on America. The tragic rape of a 14-year-old girl – and its emotional and political fallout – deeply touched Ann’s heart, largely in part because it was an illegal raping an American teenager.
May 2017 – Manchester Concert Terrorist Attack
In a poignant column published shortly after the Manchester concert terrorist attack in May, 2017, Ann’s satirically titled column – “Rome Burns – Nero Worries About Pyrophobia” – cut to the heart of the matter. It is, perhaps, her second-best column of 2017.
This was one of Ann’s two best columns of 2017, written with deep passion and conviction about an issue dear to her heart.
June 2017 – Alexandria Shooting
Ann highlighted the hypocrisy and partisan political agenda of the Fake News Media in the wake of an assassination attempt by a Leftist against a group of Republican political leaders! (Trump Derangement Syndrome prevails on the Left. Though, of late, Coulter has been captured by its allure.)
August 2017 – Statue of Liberty
Ann spotlighted the absurdity of the Left’s immigration talking points and their looking to a poem written by Emma Lazarus which is on the Statue of Liberty donated to America by France instead of looking to what is written in our American Constitution.
September 2017 – Immigration Moratorium
Ann showcased the lunacy of current immigration policy and the failure of politicians to protect the American people from dangers both foreign and domestic.
October 2017 – Snarky Media
Apparently without any self-reflection at all, Ann accurately observed the nature of the Fake News Media and its failure to objectively report the facts on the great issues of our day.
November 2017 – Sexual Harassment
Ann exposed the sham nature of the #MeToo movement and its double standards when reporting on liberal vs. conservative villains.
January 2018 – Being an American
Ann drew a line in the sand between those who are American patriots and those who are self-proclaimed citizens of the world.
March 2018 – Walls Work
Through the first two years of the Trump presidency, the Left’s primary talking point regarding securing our border is that nothing can be done about the influx of illegal aliens and that walls do not work. Ann’s counterargument refuted their nonsense.
March 2018 – White Privilege
Ann mocked the Identity Politics Left, which has championed the nonsensical White Privilege narrative for perhaps a decade or more. (Of course, Coulter has her own equally nonsensical WASP Privilege narrative.)
In denouncing the open borders movement, Ann eloquently expressed how unlimited immigration is transforming America from top to bottom.
June 2018 – Genocidal Rwandan Refugees
Ann contrasted absorbing alleged refugees from extremely dysfunctional countries who bring with them the violent antisocial aspects of their homelands to America with the Left’s obsession over microaggressions in American culture.
The only culture the Left condemns is America’s!
July 2018 – SCOTUS Panic
Because the ideas of the Left are anathema to most Americans, the Left has used the courts to implement its agenda which is contrary to the will of the people. Ann pointed out why the Left is so incensed over Supreme Court and lower court nominations, employing scorched-earth politics and ad hominen rhetoric against those it deems a threat to its Progressive agenda.
October 2018 – Sanctuary Cities
Ann explained why she calls sanctuary cities the new Jim Crow.
January 2019 – Leftist Anti-Wall Talking Points Walled Off from Reality
Ann cogently and humorously explained why walls work, why they can and should be built, and why the Left’s preferred solutions are ineffective.
May 2019 – #BuildTheWall
Though I disagree with Ann’s continued attacks against Trump over immigration and the wall, Ann did a good job rhetorically of conveying her viewpoint.
August 2019 – Democrats Should be on a Terrorist Watch List
Ann hoisted the Left on its own petard, using its own standards, to declare that “every Democratic presidential candidate should be on a terrorist watch list right now.”
Joker: Ann Coulter Unplugged provides an in-depth, detailed analysis of Coulter’s worldview and character flaws which have led her to be so wrong in so many areas in which she regards herself as an expert.
Ann Coulter, “We’ll tell you how dangerous Ebola is after the election,” 10/15/14.
Ann Coulter, “Your ‘to do’ list to save America,” 9/17/14.
While I disagree with some of her conclusions, her presentation was excellent. It was a thoroughly enjoyable read, except for the elimination rhetoric in the very last phrase. (Some habits die hard.) (I would also have chosen words other than “insane” and “idiots,” though, perhaps I am getting too picky.) But for a nuts-and-bolts let’s-get-down-to-the-details election analysis, it was top notch, and, again, an enjoyable read. Consider it an unpolished diamond.
Ann correctly diagnosed the rationale and motivating factors behind the open-borders movement and its false narratives against those who seek to preserve national sovereignty and American culture.
In the space of a few short years, Coulter turned from being a neoconservative zealot to a Fortress America fanatical isolationist and pacifist.
Her current isolationist and nativist obsession with “pointless wars” in foreign lands leads her inevitably to conclude that World War II was also a pointless war.
Coulter’s foreign policy heart lies with that of one of her mentors, Patrick Buchanan.
During the Clinton presidency, Coulter continually denounced the administration’s use of military force overseas, arguing that it was not in our national interest.
In 1997, Coulter said, “I don’t think we should be trying to go around and be the world’s Policeman because you can guess wrong. I mean, we can’t create a beautiful constitutional democracy across the world.”
Bur for fully a decade following 9/11, Coulter was the fiercest armchair war hawk in America. Toward the end of the Obama presidency, Coulter reversed course, returning to her Buchananite foreign policy roots. (She could easily join the “War Is Not the Answer” crowd if it were more pro-American.)
Once a zealous moral and cultural conservative and fervently pro-life – “There’s almost no conversation I couldn’t turn into an abortion discussion.” – Coulter turned her back on the unborn for most of the past two decades. Instead, the political realm possessed Coulter, and, following 9/11, Coulter attacked everyone.
My first essay critical of Coulter in BrotherWatch (January 2002) began with these words:
Following the 9/11 terrorist attack, controversial “conservative” columnist Ann Coulter – best known as that “acid-tongued blonde” wearing her trademark micro mini-skirts – appeared to descend into madness. Cutting edge went over the edge. Coulter declared a two-front war against terrorists and liberals. – Right Wing Warrior Princess
Of course, her Fortress America paradigm blindly dismisses the very real and existential threats facing America today and in the near future posed by terrorists and tyrannical, America-hating regimes around the world.
Coulter now denounces the Reagan Doctrine’s formulation of “peace through strength” and she appears oblivious to the renaissance of peace and prosperity which Americans enjoy today – due to Trump’s emulation of Reagan’s proven policies.
Coulter’s single-minded fixation with immigration and a wall has given her a myopic perspective on reality and the world in which we live. She has tunnel vision – like a horse with blinders on – and is oblivious to anything which does not fit her own pet paradigm.
As is always the case, anyone who disagrees with her perspective and agenda is a traitor or evil – even though she herself has completely reversed many of her positions over the past two decades. (At one point or another, she could have called herself a traitor.)
Coulter went berserk over Trump’s visit to the Wailing Wall:
On the eve of Trump’s major prime time national address regarding a national crisis on our southern border, Coulter reversed her position, issuing a series of nonsensical tweets attacking President Trump.
The following chart encapsulates a few of Coulter’s transitions and key transformative periods during Coulter’s professional career as a “journalist.”
Joker: Ann Coulter Unplugged provides an in-depth, detailed analysis in this holistic exposé of how and why Coulter has become such a warped human being.
Joker addresses the physical, mental, emotional, psychological, familial, sexual, and spiritual dimensions which have shaped the Ann Coulter that we know today and it highlights both the positives and the negatives of Coulter’s life and career.
Ann’s brokenness provides an object lesson for all of us and, hopefully, this book will act as an intervention to help Ann face her deep brokenness and motivate her to seek healing and restoration.
Seeking to protect America from terrorists, Ann Coulter actually protects terrorists who are already in America.
Coulter wants to ban immigration to prevent people who are or might become terrorists from entering our homeland. She cites specific examples of “second-generation immigrants” (e.g., native-born Americans) who have committed terrorist attacks. Yet, at the very same time, Coulter denies the existence of terrorists in America.
As she has done for the last several years, Coulter primary – indeed, only – concern is immigration. Hence her repeated denials that ISIS is not in America and ISIS poses absolutely no threat to Americans.
“I don’t even care about ISIS!” – Ann Coulter, 2/19/15
“ISIS is not on our doorstep.” – Ann Coulter, 2/25/15
“If you don’t want to be killed by ISIS, don’t go to Syria.” – Ann Coulter, 2/25/15
“ISIS: 0; Ted Kennedy: Too Many to Count” – Ann Coulter, 7/8/15
“Are you worried about an attack from ISIS in America? I’m not. [ISIS attacks in America] are an immigration problem.” – Ann Coulter, 8/22/16
This, even as she decries the influx of non-WASP immigrants who might become radicalized Islamists.
Classic Orwellian doublethink. The terrorists are immigrants (who must be banned and banished) but, because they’re immigrants, they’re not terrorists.
Confused, Coulter can’t grasp that we are facing an immigration and terrorism crisis. Moreover, Coulter redefines “immigrant” to include native-born Americans.
Coulter wrote (9/21/16): “This is the doubletalk the public has been forced to endure after every terrorist attack.”
In a Twilight Zone development, the far left and far right agree on ISIS. Fiery foes, John Kerry and Ann Coulter are in strange fellowship on ISIS.
In addition to sharing a warped perspective of ISIS and being northeastern moderate elites (one actually claims to be conservative), Coulter and Kerry share many other character and ideological traits. (We’ll leave that for another time, though narcissism would be high on the list.)
One denies the nature of ISIS, the other its goals. Kerry denies that ISIS is Islamic; Coulter denies that ISIS is in America.
Furthermore, Coulter and Kerry are both appalled at the extent of media coverage of ISIS and each would like to silence the media.
Kerry recently said (emphasis added), “If you decide one day you’re going to be a terrorist and you’re willing to kill yourself, you can go out and kill some people. You can make some noise … perhaps the media would do us all a service if they didn’t cover it quite as much. People wouldn’t know what’s going on.”
Coulter ranted, “every time I turn on TV it’s ISIS, ISIS, ISIS,” and said, “Fox was spending a bit too much time on ISIS.” Coulter even regards ISIS coverage as a media conspiracy: “There are always going to be Muslim atrocities! Whenever the media starts obsessing with ISIS, I think you’re hiding something.”
I have long argued that Coulter is not far-right. She is extreme, but not a conservative by any reasonable measure. But, since she is regarded as a Conservative Icon, I will accede to that nomenclature for this column. See The Beauty of Conservatism, available as a free download at www.coulterwatch.com/beauty.pdf.
See “Obama’s War … on Global Warming!” at http://t.co/WmjRvUyVlw. Kerry recently said, “As we were working together on the challenge of [ISIS] and terrorism, it’s hard for some people to grasp it, but what we – you [at this climate change conference] – are doing here right now is of equal importance because it has the ability to literally save life on the planet itself.”
If Coulter’s entire immigration plan was put into effect, it would not prevent terrorist attacks from jihadists or radicalized Americans who are already here.
A moratorium on all immigration – which is her favorite proposal – would do absolutely nothing to address the jihadist threat currently entrenched in America. Under Coulter’s plan, American citizens who have lived in America for decades and been radicalized to jihad would remain in America.
As for the 9/11 hijackers, guess how many were immigrants? None! One entered the U.S. on a student visa, the remainder on tourist or business visas.
In her current column – this week’s shtick – Coulter heralds yet another grand conspiracy theory, this one by the “liberal and conservative media.”
Coulter repeatedly attacks “conservative news outlet(s)” which break “fake Trump scandal(s),” decries “the ‘conservative’ media calling him a socialist, a Democrat, a flip-flopper, a fake conservative,” and asserts that all such accusations are merely “name-calling” and non-substantive.
Coulter again confuses “conservative” with “Republican,” regarding them as synonymous. One would think that she would have learned by now that electing RINOs (the very non-conservative Republicans Coulter is prone to promote) does not further a conservative agenda.
Still, Coulter vilifies “Conservative pundits [who] keep assuring clueless viewers that Trump is not a ‘real Republican.’” Trump may be a “real” RINO, but he is not a conservative!
Nevertheless, Coulter envisions a time when the next generation will invoke “Trump Republicans” with adulation. (Ann, Trump = Rockefeller = Eastern.)
Coulter warps herself and her savior in the American flag to shield both of them from criticism for their non-conservative views. Coulter reprised her nativistpolitics, asking, “Wouldn’t it be nice to have a president who likes us more than he likes foreigners – and the rich donors who employ them?”
Coulter concludes her hit piece with this paragraph:
“Looking at what the party has become, I certainly hope he’s not a ‘real Republican.’ I know he’s a real American. Those used to be the same thing.”
Conservatives criticize Trump for not being a real conservative, not a real Republican. Further, Coulter suggests that anyone opposed to Trump is not a real American.
Ann Coulter recently evinced surprise to be criticized by conservatives. Why? Is she just now noticing?
Since 9/11, many conservatives have frequently found fault with the substance and style of Coulter’s work, as well as with her integrity and veracity. In fact, conservative criticism of Coulter has increased dramatically in recent years.
Yet, Coulter grumbled, “I expect liberals to diss me, but not conservatives.”
Until Donald Trump announced his candidacy for President, Coulter was so obsessed with a Romney nomination that she engaged in historical revisionism, repeatedly claiming that “[Romney] did better than Reagan did.” Quick to lie about one of the greatest American presidents and a hero to the Right, Coulter falsely asserts:
“In 1980, Reagan won the biggest electoral landslide in history against an incumbent president, Jimmy Carter. Without the last 40 years of immigration, in 2012, Mitt Romney would have won a bigger landslide than Reagan did. He got more of the ‘Reagan coalition’ than Reagan did.”
Is it true? No!
With 1980 demographics, Romney would have received 52% to Obama’s 46% – a 6 point spread. But Reagan won in 1980 with a 10 point lead. In 1980, Reagan received 51% of the popular vote; Carter, 41%.
Immigration is Coulter’s single-issue this election cycle, and, therefore, immigration trumps everything else – including reason, integrity, and veracity.
Now, Coulter looks askance at Reagan and his admirers, bemoaning, “These johnny-come-latelies to Reagan worship seem to think that he was Jesus Christ and could do no wrong.”
A recent Coulter tweet berates conservatives: “GOPs all trying 2 B Reagan in a nation that wld not elect RR today bc of post-1970 immigratn.”
Actually, Ann, Reagan was a visionary who knew what he was talking about and he had a way of connecting with people from all walks of life. He was truly a People’s President. (See my 1997 “Ronald Reagan Special Edition” (28 pp) with tributes from people who knew him best.) I suspect Reagan would have done well in today’s political environment.
Reagan, a charming and compassionate man with character and integrity, was a real winner. (But not good enough for Coulter, whose appreciation of those very qualities is decidedly lacking.)
“Let us dispense with this preposterous notion that Ann Coulter is arch-conservative or far-right. Adding arch or ultra to conservative implies more; Coulter is less. Coulter may be arch but she’s not conservative; she may be far but she’s not right.”
