Coulter’s Terrorist Protection Racket

Seeking to protect America from terrorists, Ann Coulter actually protects terrorists who are already in America.

coulters-terrorist-protection-racket

Coulter wants to ban immigration to prevent people who are or might become terrorists from entering our homeland. She cites specific examples of “second-generation immigrants” (e.g., native-born Americans) who have committed terrorist attacks. Yet, at the very same time, Coulter denies the existence of terrorists in America.

Coulter has repeatedly denied (again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again) the threat that ISIS poses to Americans in America.

As she has done for the last several years, Coulter primary – indeed, only – concern is immigration. Hence her repeated denials that ISIS is not in America and ISIS poses absolutely no threat to Americans.

  • “I don’t even care about ISIS!” – Ann Coulter, 2/19/15
  • “ISIS is not on our doorstep.” – Ann Coulter, 2/25/15
  • “If you don’t want to be killed by ISIS, don’t go to Syria.” – Ann Coulter, 2/25/15
  • “ISIS: 0; Ted Kennedy: Too Many to Count” – Ann Coulter, 7/8/15
  • “Are you worried about an attack from ISIS in America? I’m not. [ISIS attacks in America] are an immigration problem.” – Ann Coulter, 8/22/16

This, even as she decries the influx of non-WASP immigrants who might become radicalized Islamists.

Classic Orwellian doublethink. The terrorists are immigrants (who must be banned and banished) but, because they’re immigrants, they’re not terrorists.

Confused, Coulter can’t grasp that we are facing an immigration and terrorism crisis. Moreover, Coulter redefines “immigrant” to include native-born Americans.

Coulter wrote (9/21/16): “This is the doubletalk the public has been forced to endure after every terrorist attack.”

Yes! After every terrorist attack, Coulter claims we must stop immigrants, not terrorists!

Coulter and Kerry Agree on ISIS

In a Twilight Zone development, the far left and far right agree on ISIS. Fiery foes, John Kerry and Ann Coulter are in strange fellowship on ISIS.

Coulter & Kerry Agree on ISIS

In addition to sharing a warped perspective of ISIS and being northeastern moderate elites (one actually claims to be conservative[1]), Coulter and Kerry share many other character and ideological traits. (We’ll leave that for another time, though narcissism[2] would be high on the list.)

But, back to ISIS.

Both Kerry[3] and Coulter[4] claim that ISIS poses no threat to America and they absurdly assert that something else is the real existential threat (Kerry – global warming;[5] Coulter – immigration[6]).

One denies the nature of ISIS, the other its goals. Kerry denies that ISIS is Islamic;[7] Coulter denies that ISIS is in America.

Furthermore, Coulter[8] and Kerry are both appalled at the extent of media coverage of ISIS and each would like to silence the media.

Kerry recently said (emphasis added), “If you decide one day you’re going to be a terrorist and you’re willing to kill yourself, you can go out and kill some people. You can make some noise … perhaps the media would do us all a service if they didn’t cover it quite as much. People wouldn’t know what’s going on.”

Coulter ranted, “every time I turn on TV it’s ISIS, ISIS, ISIS,”[9] and said, “Fox was spending a bit too much time on ISIS.”[10] Coulter even regards ISIS coverage as a media conspiracy: “There are always going to be Muslim atrocities! Whenever the media starts obsessing with ISIS, I think you’re hiding something.”[11]

Propagandists[12] everywhere hate the truth coming out.

Coulter’s ISIS Denial

Are you worried about an attack from ISIS in America? I’m not.”

Coulter’s ISIS Denial

Ann Coulter spoke those words on August 22, 2016.[1] Long after San Bernardino and Orlando. Long after Paris, Brussels, Istanbul, and Nice.

According to FBI counterterrorism expert Dr. Sebastian Gorka, there have been 109 ISIS attacks in America in the last two years.[2]

Moreover, Coulter argues that domestic terrorist attacks by ISIS are “an immigration problem.”

Coulter has repeatedly denied (again,[3] and again,[4] and again,[5] and again,[6] and again,[7] and again,[8] and again,[9] and again[10]) the threat that ISIS poses to Americans in America.

Here are a few Coulter gems: “I don’t even care about ISIS!” “ISIS is not at our doorstep.” “Forget the terrorism.”

Forgetting the terrorism, Coulter blithely charges ahead with her anti-immigration agenda and rejects every effort to deal with those terrorists and would-be terrorists who are already here!

If Coulter’s entire immigration plan was put into effect, it would not prevent terrorist attacks from jihadists or radicalized Americans who are already here.

A moratorium on all immigration – which is her favorite proposal – would do absolutely nothing to address the jihadist threat currently entrenched in America. Under Coulter’s plan, American citizens who have lived in America for decades and been radicalized to jihad would remain in America.

As for the 9/11 hijackers, guess how many were immigrants? None! One entered the U.S. on a student visa, the remainder on tourist or business visas.

Emulating Obama, who dismisses the ISIS threat and refuses to even name Islamic terrorism, Coulter dismisses the ISIS threat and refuses to acknowledge its existence in the heartland of America.

Ludicrously, Coulter writes: “If your elected representative is talking to you about ISIS, he’s planning to outsource your job and move Syrian refugees into your neighborhood.”

Coulter is acting as a Quisling isolationist.

Wake up, Ann Coulter!

The Real Talking Head Twit of the Year

This week’s Coulter column, titled “Talking Head Twit of the Year Contest,” begs for the nomination of its writer as the winner.

Calling the GOP pundit class “clueless morons,” Coulter invites justifiable reciprocation.

Talking Head Twit

Coulter limited her critique of her peers to prognostications on Trump’s presidential campaign,[1] her singular obsession[2] this election cycle.

Ann Coulter Gems

Here are a few Coulter gems from the past year.

Absurdly, Coulter insists that the Great Depression “was the most prosperous period in American history.”[3]

Coulter has repeatedly denied (again,[4] and again,[5] and again,[6] and again,[7] and again,[8] and again,[9] and again[10]) the threat that ISIS poses to Americans in America.

Coulter’s infamous rant against Jews[11] cost her both speaking engagements and television appearances.[12] Her phony excuses[13] failed to convince others.

Coulter repeatedly attacks Catholics[14] for being Catholic.

Coulter repeatedly attacks Christians for being Christians. To Coulter, Christian missionaries are fake Christians.[15] She even attacks Christians for being godly![16] Coulter advocates for ignoring the ongoing Christian genocide[17] taking place in the Middle East.

Coulter repeatedly attacks[18] pro-lifers[19] for championing life.[20]

Coulter became a birther[21] to lie about Cruz’s eligibility for president.[22]

Coulter relishes calling other people bimbos, while inviting similar criticism.[23]

Coulter claimed that Ben Carson and Carly Fiorina[24] were popular candidates only because he is black and she is a woman. Tokens to political correctness.

Coulter’s Irrelevancy

In her column, Coulter lamented that GOP pundits “can … be so consistently wrong and never lose work.” Why does Coulter still have a job?

Of those pundits, Coulter asked, “why should we listen to you next time?” Why should we listen to Coulter?

Fortunately, a growing number of conservatives are beginning to see Coulter for who she really is.[25] Hence her growing irrelevancy.[26]

Ann Coulter announced a Talking Head Twit of the Year Contest and – surprise! – she won!

Coulter’s Know-Nothing American Party

Ann Coulter, head cheerleader for a new Know-Nothing American Party,[1] champions a faux conservative as America’s savior,[2] calling him a “real American,” as opposed to Trump’s opponents, and she again conflates being conservative with being Republican.

Coulter's Know-Nothing American Party

In her current column[3] – this week’s shtick – Coulter heralds yet another grand conspiracy theory, this one by the “liberal and conservative media.”

Coulter repeatedly attacks “conservative news outlet(s)” which break “fake Trump scandal(s),” decries “the ‘conservative’ media calling him a socialist, a Democrat, a flip-flopper, a fake conservative,” and asserts that all such accusations are merely “name-calling” and non-substantive.

According to Coulter, “the accusers never include examples, not true ones, anyway.” This is the exact same tactic Coulter used to defend Romney,[4] boldly asserting that Romney’s flip-flops and gaffes were all imaginary.[5]

Coulter again confuses “conservative” with “Republican,” regarding them as synonymous. One would think that she would have learned by now that electing RINOs[6] (the very non-conservative Republicans Coulter is prone to promote) does not further a conservative agenda.

Still, Coulter vilifies “Conservative pundits [who] keep assuring clueless viewers that Trump is not a ‘real Republican.’” Trump may be a “real” RINO, but he is not a conservative!

Nevertheless, Coulter envisions a time when the next generation will invoke “Trump Republicans[7] with adulation. (Ann, Trump = Rockefeller = Eastern.)

Coulter warps herself and her savior in the American flag to shield both of them from criticism for their non-conservative views. Coulter reprised her nativist[8] politics,[9] asking, “Wouldn’t it be nice to have a president who likes us more than he likes foreigners – and the rich donors who employ them?”

Coulter concludes her hit piece with this paragraph:

“Looking at what the party has become, I certainly hope he’s not a ‘real Republican.’ I know he’s a real American. Those used to be the same thing.”

Conservatives criticize Trump for not being a real conservative, not a real Republican. Further, Coulter suggests that anyone opposed to Trump is not a real American.

Real conservatives – those who defend the Constitution and support a traditional, biblically-grounded American culture – recognize the dangers of Trump’s anti-Constitutional, non-Christian, non-conservative approach[10] to solving the manifold problems besetting America today.

Conservatives Diss Coulter!

Ann Coulter recently evinced surprise to be criticized by conservatives. Why? Is she just now noticing?

Diss

Since 9/11, many conservatives have frequently found fault with the substance and style of Coulter’s work, as well as with her integrity and veracity. In fact, conservative criticism of Coulter has increased dramatically in recent years.

Yet, Coulter grumbled, “I expect liberals to diss me, but not conservatives.”[1]

Playing the victim card once again,[2] Coulter added, “What is it with me? Is it because I’m a girl?”

No, Ann. It’s because you are not the conservative you claim to be.[3]

Coulter consistently attacks Christians,[4] the Tea Party,[5] pro-lifers,[6] and libertarians,[7] while promoting RINOs[8] – from Chris Christie, to Mitt Romney,[9] to Donald Trump.[10]

As she does so, she issues death threats[11] and tells lies[12] (often whoppers!) about individuals,[13] groups,[14] and even American war heroes.[15]

Ann Coulter – Not a Reagan Conservative

For years, Coulter idolized America’s 40th president, proclaiming herself a Reagan conservative – and proud of it.

No longer.

In her 2004 eulogy for the Gipper,[16] Coulter attacked his grieving family.[17]

Since the 2012 election cycle, Coulter has regarded Mitt Romney as the new and improved Ronald Reagan.[18]

Until Donald Trump announced his candidacy for President, Coulter was so obsessed with a Romney nomination that she engaged in historical revisionism, repeatedly claiming that “[Romney] did better than Reagan did.”[19] Quick to lie about one of the greatest American presidents and a hero to the Right, Coulter falsely asserts:

“In 1980, Reagan won the biggest electoral landslide in history against an incumbent president, Jimmy Carter. Without the last 40 years of immigration, in 2012, Mitt Romney would have won a bigger landslide than Reagan did. He got more of the ‘Reagan coalition’ than Reagan did.”[20]

Is it true? No!

With 1980 demographics, Romney would have received 52% to Obama’s 46% – a 6 point spread. But Reagan won in 1980 with a 10 point lead. In 1980, Reagan received 51% of the popular vote; Carter, 41%.

Immigration is Coulter’s single-issue this election cycle, and, therefore, immigration trumps everything else – including reason, integrity, and veracity.

Now, Coulter looks askance at Reagan and his admirers, bemoaning, “These johnny-come-latelies to Reagan worship seem to think that he was Jesus Christ and could do no wrong.”[21]

A recent Coulter tweet berates conservatives: “GOPs all trying 2 B Reagan in a nation that wld not elect RR today bc of post-1970 immigratn.”

Actually, Ann, Reagan was a visionary who knew what he was talking about and he had a way of connecting with people from all walks of life. He was truly a People’s President. (See my 1997 “Ronald Reagan Special Edition” (28 pp) with tributes from people who knew him best.) I suspect Reagan would have done well in today’s political environment.

Reagan, a charming and compassionate man with character and integrity, was a real winner. (But not good enough for Coulter, whose appreciation of those very qualities is decidedly lacking.)

Ann Coulter – Not a Conservative

As I noted in my CPAC 2002 press kit:[22]

“Let us dispense with this preposterous notion that Ann Coulter is arch-conservative or far-right. Adding arch or ultra to conservative implies more; Coulter is less. Coulter may be arch but she’s not conservative; she may be far but she’s not right.”

Coulter’s Latest RINO Would Give Democrats Victory

Yet again, Ann Coulter supports a RINO, but this one isn’t even a Republican![1]

An ecstatic Coulter gushed, “[A third party candidacy] would be fantastic! Go, Trump, Go!”[2]

Ann Coulter’s latest RINO love is Donald Trump, who, if he runs a third party campaign, wouldn’t even be a Republican. (Right now, he is a faux Republican.)

Trump’s political self-identity is, at best, murky. That he would even consider a third party run – which would ensure a Democrat victory – proves he is not a conservative.

TrumpDefeat

So why would Coulter support Trump for a third party candidacy?

Coulter Loves RINOs

Coulter’s love of RINOs is no secret. She still yearns for Chris Christie and has loved Mitt Romney since 2006.[3] Coulter has fought against the Tea Party – and for RINOs – for years,[4] even ferociously supporting Mitch McConnell, who has seriously disappointed her.[5]

Consider her infatuation with Christie: “My flirtation with Christie was like running off with a biker. He was new and exciting – and made conservatives feel alive.” Even now, she says, “I still like [Christie], except he’s bad on amnesty. He’s smart. He’s articulate.”[6] Coulter argues, “I was [Christie’s] biggest fan because he’s funny and smart …”[7]

But, early in 2014, Coulter admitted, “But I don’t think Christie was that electable other than the fact that he probably would have been the most liberal candidate running in a primary.”[8] Yes, Coulter supported the most liberal GOP candidate.

Nothing has changed after all these years.

Coulter Loves Trump

Now, Coulter has been smitten in a big way by the Donald,[9] so much so that she has defamed American war heroes[10] and redefined racism[11] – all to defend Trump, and herself, from criticism.

So, what does Coulter like about Trump? His looks and his style! [She thought Romney was tall and handsome, too!]

As reported by the Daily Caller, Coulter thinks “He’s attractive. He’s tall. He’s hilariously funny.” (Is Coulter talking about herself?) (A few weeks earlier, Coulter exclaimed, “Donald Trump, I love him because he does talk a little like me, which is to say, blunt.”[12])

Coulter continued, “I think he could be not only a nominee who could win but a third party candidate who could win.” (Really? As a third party candidate splitting the conservative vote?)[13]

Coulter added, “The more I see Trump talk, the more it diminishes the other candidates.” (Coulter has already called the other GOP candidates “midgets.” How much smaller can they get?)

Coulter insisted, “I promise you that if the nominee is Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, Rick Perry or really any of those midgets, our fate is sealed. … The Republican isn’t winning if it’s Marco or Jeb Bush. It’s absolute madness.” (Yet another promise Coulter can’t keep.)

Coulter’s own madness: “The polls show Donald Trump is way ahead.” (Since when does Coulter trust polls? And polls this early in the election cycle? Coulter has often said that the only poll that counts is the election.)

Trump is Like Coulter

Perhaps what Coulter really likes about Trump is that Trump is so much like Coulter (though more flamboyant and less erudite). They are both self-promoting narcissists with few filters on their speech.

Consider a National Review column promoted by Coulter on her website. It describes Trump this way:

“A brash showboat and celebrity, self-promoter and controversialist, silly and mocking, a caricature of a caricature, Donald Trump is no one’s idea of a serious presidential candidate. Which is exactly why the radical middle finds him refreshing. Not an iota of him is politically correct, he plays by no rules of comity or civility, he genuflects to no party or institution, he is unafraid of and antagonistic toward the media, and he challenges the conventional wisdom of both parties…”

Those character and personality attributes could equally apply to Coulter, which perhaps explains to a large extent his appeal to her. Coulter describes herself as a polemicist who seeks to be outrageous and offend people.[14] (Latching on to Trump’s coattails to garner greater book sales is surely another personal motivator for Coulter.)

(To be fair, Coulter does reflexively defend Republicans, unless doing so interferes with her agenda.)

Trump and Coulter are similar in character and temperament. Maggie Gallagher observes: “He is our id, he doesn’t play by the rules, he gives out Lindsey Graham’s personal cell-phone number, he beats the media over the head and calls his fellow Republicans ‘losers.’ He’s politically incorrect on steroids, and he’s not going to apologize for any of it, ever.”

(Don’t expect any apologies from Coulter, either.)

Like Coulter,[15] Trump thinks he knows better than everyone else. Jonah Goldberg observes:

“Of course Trump wouldn’t hesitate to attack John McCain’s war-hero status. Trump’s bottomless insecurity cannot countenance the idea that his critics have any legitimacy. Of course Trump won’t apologize – because his dog-and-pony show is predicated on the idea that he ‘tells it like it is’ and ‘fights.’ He’s the omniscient master of The Apprentice. He can’t behave like the Biggest Loser.”

Likewise, Coulter discounts her conservative critics as “phony,” “fake,” and “so-called” conservatives.

Trump = RINO (Without the R?)

How, exactly, is Trump not a conservative?

George Will succinctly summarized core aspects of Trump’s character and platform:

“They’ll find he’s not just uncouth; he is unprincipled. They’ll find out he was pro-choice, ‘very pro-choice ‘as he used to say. They’ll find he gave money to Hillary Clinton, Chuck Schumer, Reid, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) because he obviously wanted the Democratic congress. And they’re going to want to think about that. Other issues, the Kelo, the worst Supreme Court decision of this century, which vastly expanded the power of people like Donald Trump using government to take away private property. He supports that. See how people like that.”

Trump also favors gun control and socialized medicine and opposes entitlement reform. As noted by the American Enterprise Institute, “His hair has been more permanent than his political positions.”

While Trump’s anti-immigration rhetoric appeals to many voters who rightly feel ignored by the political class, his attitude toward Islamic jihad in America mirrors that of Coulter. Trump continues to denounce Pamela Geller’s courageous stand against Islamists in America, calling her an “obnoxious blowhard” and “nobody” – very Coulteresque language.

Like Coulter,[16] the Donald does not get it: We need to defend our right to free speech against Islamists.[17]

Real Clear Politics asked why Trump isn’t running as a Democrat. Carl Cannon wrote, “Let’s go further, however, and point out that this guy has never really been on the GOP team.” Cannon added,

“In a recent interview, Ari Fleischer, who was White House press secretary under George W. Bush, said it was clear that Trump was ‘no conservative.’ The real issue is more basic: there’s not much evidence he’s even a Republican.”

That Coulter-promoted National Review column reiterated what most informed people understand: “Trump is not a conservative, nor by any means a mainstream Republican.” Moreover, he reached a conclusion in direct opposition to Coulter’s views.

The closing paragraph warns, “What so worries the GOP about Donald Trump is that he, like Ross Perot, has the resources and ego to rend the two [factions of the GOP] apart. … So the demagogue rises. The party splits. And the Clintons win.”

Ego can be extremely destructive (and self-destructive).

Trump as Third Party Candidate?

Could Trump win as a third party candidate? Is Ann Coulter right? Time will tell. (One thing we do know is that Coulter’s track record at political prognostication is mediocre, at best.)

A recent Quinnipiac poll reveals, “Perhaps the biggest loser, however, is Donald Trump, who has negative favorability ratings of almost 2-1 in each state.” It is pretty hard to win an election if people don’t like you.

While defending the viability of a Trump candidacy for the GOP, Larry O’Connor predicted, “Third party is death for the country.”[18] History agrees. Theodore Roosevelt’s third-party run gave us Woodrow Wilson, an inspiration for progressives throughout the 20th century. Ross Perot – another flamboyant billionaire – derailed George H.W. Bush’s re-election efforts, leading to a Clinton victory.

Let us avoid a repeat of 1992.
